Hey guys, need some help diagnosing a problem. Car will start and run fine but after driving for a bit, the engine sputters and bucks, tachmeter drops to 0 rpm's. The engine smooths out and runs fine again and the tach jumps back to the correct rpm. It does this once of twice, then stalls completely and won't start again until the car cools down for a bit. First things that came to my mind were ignition control module, crankshaft position sensor, or the control module that sits on top of the radiator.

I replaced the water pump and timing belt a little over a year ago and I just put a new fuel pump and sending unit in a few months ago. Anyone experience something similar or have any ideas?

Thanks!

Classic symptom of Crank shaft sensor failure. Usually caused by a water pump that is or has leaked out the weep hole on to it. Even if the water pump is new it could be weeping out and causing this.

Ok I was thinking that old leaking water pump could have ruined it. I did the timing belt just over a year ago, so I can't quite remember, do I only need to pull the harmonic balancer? Or do i have to pull all the timing covers again too?

I have always pulled the lower timing sprocket. You maybe able to do it without pulling it, but I never have.
