#8 Fuse blowing

I was looking at the fuses after driving one day and noticed my interior lights don’t come on I then look in my trusty 89 owners manual and see that fuse #8 controls these items along with some other stuff that I didn’t realize didn’t work since my dash is out. So I found the right fuse and it says #8 says a 15 amp fuse should be there but I found a 20 amp fuse I then stick a new 15 in blows it instantly I unplug the battery put a new 15 amp fuse I tapped the terminal and fuse blows again. My friend told me I’m getting a power short

Also a replacement switch (and the harness if needed) is part of a Safety Recall 98S01 for 1993 and 94; expect that the issue is not limited to just those years. "Over time some headlamp switches in the affected vehicles may develop excessive electrical resistance as a result of inadequate swage between the bimetallic strip and the copper contact."

Don't discount that the melted connector is a symptom of a short rather than the cause of a short though, especially if less protected by the incorrect fuse.
