No, you're not alone. My SHO would been sold long ago but for the help of those in-the-know who make this forum the "SHO Forum". As it is I have a near mint SHO, my first rust-free car. Special thanks to Scott who actually took the time out of his busy schedule to email me through tough spots.
Very true about Scott.

On a related note, if you ever need help, Ive trouble-shooted my SHO enough in the past, I would be willing to help you anytime before I leave. :salute:

Thanks for the offer. My car is running great at the moment. In fact, I'll be taking a trip in it next week.

Keep us posted on your ordeal. Good luck to you.

Finally did a 60K job at 110,000 - top and side job.
Top needed it! Not really bad. Not really good. I think all wires were good - but replaced them anyway. Spark plugs - they had 110,000 miles on them - what can I say? Back plugs where worst than front - most likely a bad O2 sensor.
Side ? Timing belt looked really good!! The only issue with the side job was the lower seal - but I replaced everything while in there (water pump, cps, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, front seal)

My views - If the car is not giving you problems - Do the top around 80K. Don't be afraid of the job - it is quite easily if you have any skills

Bottom (Side) end - don't worry unless something gives you a problem - like a water pumpl leaking. BUT - To be on the safe side - have all parts handy incase you need to do the job!!! It make take you weeks to get all the parts together.

The timing belts tend to *look* good, even after ungodly miles and years of seasonal hardship.

They do however, stretch. And that lowers performance. Plus, looks aside, a new belt is going to outlast a used belt, lol!

It's a good thing that the belts can last as long as they do without snapping. Just like it's a good thing those rovers on Mars are still ticking and clicking pics. It's ok to skate by on it as long as one's comfortable. But to bank on it, that's something else. Don't plan long trips with the wife and kids on an old belt. Unless you want the wife to have some sorry tale she can hold over your head when you have company over for dinner that you want to impress.

Scott, it is you we should thank for keeping SHO's on the road...I dont even blink at my 136k motor knowing you have nearly 300k. I look at it being almost halfway there. Friends look at me with saucer plate eyes when they find out how many miles are on my ride.

To all those even thinking that the 60k is all hype, it is the same as having the dentist do a thorough cleaning your teeth every 6 months. Hype? no.....preventative maintenace for keeping teeth for a lifetime? Youbetcha.

After my trip to SLC of 2000 rt to do some skiing (I only drove because I love to Drive) - I don't ever think I will take my SHO more then 250 miles from home. The car's right front knuckle bering went out - endding up costing me $500 to fix it at a Ford dealership. Would have done it myself - but at -6F it is a matter of life and dealth. I would rather take my 86 Ford Tempo with 250K on it than my SHO with 110K on it. If the Tempo breaks down - I leave it on the side of the road and take a bus home. Had I not just put in $700 in parts and who knows in labor in my SHO - I would have left it on the side of the road and brought a new Camery when I got home. I was expecting the car to go another 100K before I junked it - but know I don't know. I would not take a wife and kids in a SHO with 100K+ more than 100 miles from home.

I am starting to view the car (with 100K) as more of a toy then a serious mode of transportion. I have not had to spend a lot of time on this car until recently (unless one counts the time spend sanding off the bad paint job and then repainting it because Ford would not stand behind their product).

This SHO will, no doubt will be my last Ford I ever buy - or any other American Engineered car. I have no problems with the motor of this car - but I have problems with just about everything else with this car.

Then again this is "One Man's opinion".

Another man's opinion: Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

All parts will wear out. Replacing or servicing them before they do is required to keep any make or model of car running at its best. Any car that has its required scheduled and preventative maintenance neglected will become a rolling crap shoot.

I consider a 580-mile round trip in one day (have done that several times) an easy drive in my 296,300 mile SHO. Because of the maintenance that I perform on my car, I have the confidence to look forward to occasions that let me spend that knid of time in the saddle. My wife has no fear that my car will get our family to our destination and back home safely.
