my swap was the the 3.2 short block, everything else was retained from the 3.0. everything that was on the old engine was swapped to the new. at the time of the engine swap i swapped in the fidanze and cm1. shortly there after i did the springs struts and mounts. the exhuast work was already done to the 3.0 so that didnt change.

Do the 3.2 heads offer more torque than the 3.0 heads?

I installed the 3.0 heads on my 3.2 MTX, but if the have more torque, I would consider swapping them back.

MTX Intake 0.348” Lift, 205° Duration @ 0.050”

MTX Exhaust 0.328” Lift, 201° Duration @ 0.050”

ATX Intake 0.328” Lift, 201° Duration @ 0.050”

ATX Exhaust 0.328” Lift, 201° Duration @ 0.050”

Is it possible to use the automatic tensioner on a 3.2 w/ 3.0 heads? I'm also getting ready to do a 3.2 swap in my '92.

it is possible to use the automatic tensioner but the problem is you wont be able to use the 3.0 accessories. if you use the 3.2 accessories you wont be able to mount it with an mtx unless you make custom motor mounts.

let me know if you need more info.

heres what i did. 3.2 block and heads,3.0 cams,3.0 accs. thats the easiest way. the 3.2 heads just require a small chunk cut out for the alternator bracket. thats it, nothing else. another thing, you cant use the support bracket with the 3.2 heads unless your drill and tap the holes for it. if you put 3.0 cams in make sure torque them down with 2 stages and dont over torque!! i made that mistake and had to heli coil 3 threads.

Does this have to do with clearance when using the auto tensioner with 3.0 accessories? Or is it something else? It would be nice to use the auto tensioner with 3.0 acc.

The timing belt routing and cover's are dofferend betweeen the 3.0 and 3.2.

You need to decide what way you want to go.

IMHO 3.2 short block with 3.0 accessories is the easiest. As far as modding the front 3.2 head, it's fairly easy.

I swapped a 93 3.2l into my 95. I used the complete longblock with 3.0l cams. I noticed the TQ for sure, but IMO, its probably not any faster than what the 3.0l should have been (it had a slight case of crank cancer. Also FWIW, I ran side by side with it in my 91 3.0l car.

I'm definitely going to use 3.0 heads. But I noticed that the heads I took off of the 3.2 have KOA stamped on the cams. Does this mean that they are 3.0 cams?

I have a spare set of 3.2 cams from a 95 atx car. The exhaust cams have the raised KOA on the casting. The intake cams had the raised KOA on the casting, and it has been machined off (not all the way in one case) as part of the production machining.

So does this mean that all the cams had KOA on them one way or another?

Yes, the KOA is in the casting, which is the same one used for either mtx or atx. They are machined differently (intake cams) and when they machined the atx intake cams they apparently machined off the KOA from the casting.
