I am swapping a 3.2 into '92 mtx. Am I going to be able to use the acc. from the 3.2? How about the engine wire harness? Does anything need to be removed, added, drilled, filed, shimmed to the 3.2 to fit on to the mtx?

Thanks for your help
:thankyou:

I believe the easiest way to go is to swap over the 3.0 acc. Are you switching the 3.0 heads and intake cams? The acc should be an easy swap if you use the 3.0 heads. I know you can use the 3.2 heads, but it requires a little more work to attach everything. There are probably some pics and write ups if you search.

Let us know how it goes. I will probably be doing this next winter.

the gains from going to a 3.2 from a 3.0 just arent worth the effort, sure its cool to brag about but the power difference is so small the gain when compared to the effort just makes it not worth while. last year we did the swap in my old 91+ and the 1/4 mile mph was practically the same.

Search around here a bit as this topic comes up a lot. There are a few ways to do it, and it is possible to keep all the 3.2 accessories but it does require a bit more work.

The 3.2 with the 3.0 intake came is a nice mod. If you plan to do power-add mods in the future the extra displacement is nice to have.

if you cant build your own motor mounts you have to use the 3.0 accessories.

timing belt tensioner, water pump, alternator, all the brackets, both tensioners, and the 3.0 oil pan.

Like they said , its alot easier.

I went with the 3.2 acc. and its a real pain in the ****. You need to fab up the mounts...plus your 3.2 alternator = 3 wires , your 3.0 harness = 2 wires. It works , but its more work. Heres a couple pics of what it involves.

I always figured the biggest gains would be seen on a road course or autocross due to the increased tq you could use coming out of the corners ect...though you would think it would show up at the drag strip as well. Did you notice any more wheelspin ect? Also, my understanding is that the 3.2 swap by itself doesn't make a huge differance, but it makes you get more out of other mods.

Oh well, if I was looking for the most return per $ I would be driving something different.

There's no replacement for displacement. If you have a 3.2 on hand, build it up.

In stock form the two motors are very similar. You won't see much difference by swapping a stock 3.2 for a stock 3.0. The peak hp is the same.

But if your intention is to do more mods later, the additional displacement in the 3.2 can be beneficial.

yeah if you have a 3.2 and there is a reason like the 3.0 is tired or broke , then by all means its a good idea to swap, but if the 3.0 is healthy your pretty much wasting time and money to swap. a healthy 3.0 as many on here will tell yah can run with a healthy swapped 3.2 any day. all i am trying to prepare you for is the first time you drive it after teh swap it isnt going to amaze you or anything, unless of course as stated the 3.0 is very tired and then at that point even a fresh 3.0 would feel much better.

i notices a huge difference when i did my 3.2 swap. the added torque made it so much easier to drive around town. i dont constantly have to down shift to make quick passes, i can leave it in a higher gear around corners and the car pulls very well even in the lower rpms. it made it alot easier to launch at the track because it doesnt bog down nearly as bad. all in all i think it is a very worth while swap.

damn son nice 14.2 pass!

3.2 swap is defintely worth it

look at it this way, you can't really consider it a higher performance SHO these days unless you have this mod on a N/A street car, it just brings more to the table, you could always be faster if you did a 3.2 swap you know what I mean?

putting a 3.2 with 3.0 heads and 3.0 mounts/subframe into a MTX sho isn't THAT hard......a lot of work, but not hard or complex... damn near easy and fun compared to whats out there

newby92, and others with 3.2 swaps that noticed a power increase, what year 3.2 did you swap in? Other mods at the same time?

I think a key additional question is whether they used the 3.0 heads or not (e.g., just did a short block swap). Keeping the 3.0 cams could be where people are feeling the difference.

Low end torque is always nice to have on tap; no substitute for cubic inches is the old adage. for a true comparo though, all things would have to be equal except the block swap; was the intake, heads, etc.. cleaned when the swap performed, new plugs, wires, vac lines, couplers, etc ? if so (a part of) the improvement can also be attributed to those being replaced.

Just to add...the 3.2 that comes in the ATX...those cams have .20" less lift but are advanced 4*. So, for those 3.2 MTX swaps that just have the 3.2 block have .20" more lift and 4* retard on the 3.0 heads/cams. Now, how about 3.2 heads and 3.0 cams in the MTX...
