If I were to buy wjayg's 3.2 engine parts collection:

"I have a complete 3.2 engine
The block has been dipped & honed
Heads are bare
Crank is in excellent shape $50.00
Block, heads, crank have been wrapped in plastic and all parts stored in climate controlled garage
Complete wiring harness $45.00
exhaust manifolds $25.00
3 piece Timing Cover $65.00
I was going to build and have decided to go a different way

I am missing cams, valve covers, and intake"

What else would I need to make the swap happen? I obviously understand there is a difference in accessory drive setup between the two engines. I have a 3.0 that is fairly healthy (has slight valve tick but needs a 60k and runs some kind of cams I believe so Id imagine wear is worse than with stock cams) and would plan to use it's intake, cams, and valve covers.

1)Would I be able to adapt the 3.0 accessories to the 3.2 using the 3.2 heads (what would I run int other than notching the front head)?
2)Would I need different size rings for the hone job? If so is it worth boring it out to run HC .020 pistons? If that is the case what would a machine shop need to get the bore right as it changed slightly due to honing and I'd want it tight?
3) Could I use the 3.0 timing cover with the 3.2 oil pump?
4)Would I just be better off spending a bit extra for a whole 3.2?
:thankyou:

I wouldn't bother with boring it, unless you really want to drop the cash on the HC pistons. Even then I wouldn't, personally. Not enough gain for having to bore the motor properly, and (though I don't know if it causes an issue) you still have to use the 3.2 head gaskets.

Different sized rings, no, as long as it was just honed.

3.0 acc, yes all you should have to do is notch the front head. You can drill and tap for the lifting hook bolts that go into the head if you want them.

Lots of people use the 3.0 timing covers with the 3.2 pump. That is what I plan to do.

As far as spending extra for a whole one...well, that depends on what you can find. It would be significantly EASIER, as you would mainly just be swapping the cams over, plus you don't have to deal with rings/bearings/building the thing and hoping it doesn't explode. It would be CHEAPER to find a whole one in my opinion. Just look hard and wait for the right deal.

You'll need to tap a hole for the coilpack bracket off of a 3.0L. This won't be a requirement if you use 3.2L spark plug wires.

Yes you can use the 3.0L timing cover with the 3.2L pump but there will be a gap on the left side where the ATX tensioner takes up the space. You need to fabricate something to go in its place which could be a simple flat piece of aluminum.

If you build it, get the 3.2L head gaskets from Rockauto's house brand. Can't beat the price. That's what I have on mine and have no issues.

Since the block has been honed, there is not really any point or need to bore it out.

You will need main and rod bearings. The rod bearings are available in standard and undersize, but the main bearings have been reported obsolete in standard size for some time. Also, the thrust bearings are unobtainium.

While you can get a complete motor for as much or less, there is a lot of value in having all the parts already cleaned up for you.

If you search for a 3.2 swap, you will find a ton of information. Basically, you use the block and rotating assembly from the 3.2 and bolt all the 3.0 stuff on it. I used the 3.2 oil pump since it flows a little more. You can swap the 3.0 cams into the 3.2 head. As already has been mentions, to use the 3.2 heads there i a small chunck of aluminium you have to cut off (for the alt bracket to fit...I think) and the holes for the coil pack bracket just need tapped. I also recommend using the 3.0 oil pan. If this person has the complete engine, he may have the thrust bearing and mains.

This is a very simple swap. Everything just bolts up.

Your coilpack bracket will sit at angle like they do in the ATX cars using the 3.2 heads. My blue 94 had the 3.2 swap done and they used the 3.2 heads. My coil pack does not sit flat like it would being mounted to 3.0 heads.

...the holes for the coil pack bracket just need tapped.
