Looks good so far. If you can snap a few when you remove the rest of the rotating bits and cylinder walls... Good luck.

I took the water pump off and at first I wasn't able to move it by hand. I tried the opposite way and nothing. So I forced it back and forth and she starts moving but I felt the bearing is dead and it has a play. I found almost all broken pieces from the propeller sitting right behind the water pump. Almost all that plastic was RIGHT THERE waiting for me to discover it. Hm. Weird. I also double checked the oil pump sump pipe and the screen and I found very little metal shavings, 2 in size of probably like 4 and 6 mm long and tiny like a nail then just a very little metal dust. Next step would be taking the pistons out. Can't wait. I'm thinking about replacing the oil pump for a high volume model. Thoughts?

Thoughts are finding a used engine in good shape without shavings?? Curious as to how it looks but not sure about how this story ends.

Thoughts are finding a used engine in good shape without shavings?? Curious as to how it looks but not sure about how this story ends.
I'm not decided yet. Looking what is available is in range of 3-4k. My engine is 232000km (not miles) and those offered engines have at least 155000km. 80000 difference is 3 years according to my mileage / year. Would the water pump fail on me soon in that donor? Or the timing chain would give me some rattle and code p0016, 17, 18, 19? What are the compression values? Does it have an issues with a blow by? Has been that motor overheated, what about the heads? I don't know how that engine was running, maintenance, current problems. I'd have to change couple important and less important things on it anyway, like timing chains, tensioners and water pump for sure, and that jewelry like filters, spark plugs, valve stem seals (why not, is on the stand, right?), thermostat, gaskets, coils?, some sensors possibly. I would invest another hundreds and hundreds dollars into it. What is my price now? Is it worth it? Do I want to flip it? I don't think so.

My idea is not to run into a machine shop right away. I'll inspect mine engine first - visually, measure it inside out and according to what I find make a decision. If the measurements are out of the spec I might talk to a machine shop later, sure.

I am a believer and I believe 300km on the road with the coolant in the oil didn't do that much damage that the engine is garbage or not worth a rebuild.

Those shavings might be as a result of broken water pump bearing. Sure, might be something else.It was really a pain to spin it, I mean with my hands when I removed the WP. I bet that is why they couldn't turn it over in dealership by hand as they mention in one of their reports. At the beginning of this whole thing I couldn't too but then I moved it back and forth couple times and voila, engine starts turning.

if the visual is good and the measurements too, I'll do the math how much would it cost to put it back together. This engine would get brand new THIS and THAT and that would never be the case with another donor. That's my thought as of yet.

At that mileage I would consider changing H2O pump and timing stuff. If the guides and chain are tight enough I guess you could roll the dice but realistically probably tempting fate. I hope you are correct. Either way, I am looking forward to your project and seeing what happens.

Still be cheaper for a reman with a warranty. Put it together yourself and there is no warranty.
I might try that option too.

Edit: I just talked to 2 shops both said there's a shortage of parts for Ecoboost...

Cylinders look the same. All 6 like the one on a picture. I don't feel any scoring with my nail. I hope deglazing and new cross hatch will do the trick.

Crankshaft - main bearing nr.1 is shot. Totally. It looks like a cow chew it hard. That's the source of metal shavings I found on the oil pump screen.

Crankshaft main journal nr 1 looks like it has some scoring but again, I don't feel anything with my nail. The rest - nr 2 and 4 look good and nr 3 is shot a lil bit.

I'll do some measurements with thr tools I bought but geeeez, my boss she said it's a Christmas gift and I knew it beforehand... So I will have to wait 2 more weeks . There's still some work on cylinder heads, that would take quite some time.

Pistons are dirty but all compression rings move easy.

Piston rods bearings look very good.

Today I'm gonna measure cylinders. Fingers crossed, I'm still confused from the inches values, I'm a metric guy LoL

I'll measure the crank and will see. That bearing looks nasty but it's an easy replacement. And it won't cost a fortune.

I measured all cylinders today. I believe I got that micrometer zeroed correctly, and the cylinder gauge set up as well. I measured it like 10mm under the top of the block, in the middle and like 10mm again above the bottom dead center. I had around -7 deg Celsius in the garage, so I'm thinking everything shrinks a bit in the cold, right, so did the block or I had shaky hands doing it...

The value should be 3.641-3.642 of an inch.

Heck yeah. All the bearings should be changed if the hard parts are in spec. Cheap insurance. I wish I had the time, space, and cash to tear into my f150 5.0 coyote and start replacing engine bearings at almost 160k

I just played with some tools and yes, the hard parts are in spec. I'm waiting for the offer from a local dealership, there are some good prices on rockauto out there and what I found recently is a fordpartsgiant.

Now I have to wait until the temperature outside goes at least above -15 C so I'm able to touch something LoL. Everything so cold, it actually can burn your skin... Deglazing is the next step, measuring again and ordering parts. That's a moment I can't wait for!

Where and why do you live somewhere that gets that cold? Are you being held there against your will? Were you forced to move there? I don't understand
I really like your post. The answer is : ...that's a long story...

You can always beat the cold though LoL
