I Don't Think It Will Sound terrible I Have Heard From Many That The JL'S 18 INCH Sound Quality Is Great SPL IS GOOD TOO like 145.5 db with only 400w moving it ... And For A $500 Sub It Better Sound Good Lol..

Id go with 2 12's I have the 2005 kicker (cv?) i think the round ones w/e those are they were 500 bucks with an infinity 1600watt amp thats way over **** btw they only need 800 or something i just had that in my mustang so i used it they sounds great and they hit 145db when i had it measured at work. I got all this stuff discounted becasue i worked at circuit city so it all only cost me like 500 should cost me 1100:biggrin: but the 18 might good too I used to have infinity 10's and i hated them so i sold them and bought the kickers i literaly had the infinitys for a week and got rid of them becasue of how they sounded it depends so try it out thats the only way your going to really know.

its the lowest hitting bass i have ever herd, but i dont like how much room it takes up, but you can hear me coming from a very long ways away if thats what you are going for anyways theres some pics.

by the way, Kicker 18" comp VR, with a sony xplod 1000 watt amp (dont think it puts out 1000...)

I had an 18 in a z once, haven't tried it in a sho yet. i currently use 2 12"s because it has a balance between hitting hard and deep. an 18" will definitely play lower notes but won't necessarily hit as hard/loud as a 12". it all depends on how you want your music to sound. i say go for it as no one will probably hear a difference between sizes unless they are a stereo nut. spl is really only a useful figure if you are planning on entering competitions. in the practical world you can hear 10s, 12s, n 18s all blocks away if you set them up right. try to aim it towards the rear of the car and use an amp with plenty of juice cause some overheat with that particular sub attached.

why the yellow top? are you using it as a cap? damn sony amps...

ya, pretty much, it came time to replace the stock battery so i just decided to go with the yellow top because it helped with the light dimming problem and its a awesome battery in general

its 23x23x13 outside dementions, .75 inch MDF so interior dementions of 21.5x21.5x11.5 if i am remembering the build correctly. so cu. ft. would be around 3.07631655 minus the volume that the sub takes up, but that gets really complex, so go with about 3.1 cu ft. box (sealed) wich is very very undersized for the sub itself. but it hits hard and i still have a little space left for stuff.
hope that helps

As you can see there's room for an 18, but the trunk isn't tall enough to have it mounted vertically.

i tried lots of differnt things to get it to fire towards the rear, but k-dawg said it, too tall, and if you had it in a angled box, that would look crappy cause it would be like a 30 degree angle or something stupid like that. by the way, use something on that rear deck carpet cover thing if you have a sub pointing up. it blows around in the air movement if you dont and rattles endlessly...

i wouldn't run an 18w3 off 400 watts though unless you wanna lock your coil up but I have heard 18's in sedans and with the right tuned port the can make great spl plus SQ with the right set up 1 18w3 should hit low 50's with out a problem

my jl dealer told me to run 400 or 500 rms to the sub anything more it would blow the coils and void the warranty? so what should i do!

i just did a little research and JL dosent make a 18 w3 v2 they make a D2 and yeah the thermal power rating is 500 watts same as it says the power ratings of a 15w3 v2 is 500 watts but my friend phill put a memphis MC-2000D on 1 15w3 with the gain half way about and the port tuned at about 17 HZ and hit a 156 at outlaw last year so I dont know. But remember this you won't blow a sub by over powering it as long as your within reason I mean sure if you hook a US 1000X up to a audioxox 8 yeah you'll pop it but 99percent of all woofer damage comes from chopped signals or under powering and turning up the volume to make up for the lake of power then it distorts the crap outta the sub
