Here's what I ran in my SHO a few weeks ago.

R/T: 1.272
60': 2.713
330: 7.255
1/8: 10.814
MPH: 69.30
1000: 13.89
1/4: 16.452
MPH: 88.4

I know my R/T sucks, but shouldn't my car be doing better than this anyway? I was hoping for at least a 15.2. I can't really launch it that well, but still. I think my trap speed should be a few mph higher.

It takes practice. Most everyone has slow runs at first. Just keep at it and you'll get the hang of it! Also, there has been lots of good info posted around here on how to drag race an SHO. I am sure you could find some great stuff by doing a search.

Also, don't be too disheartened. If you had nailed a perfect light, you would have ran a 15.680. That is assuming that the strip you were at considers .500 a perfect reaction time.

What bothers me is that a 15.6 is really slow. There are stock cavalier z24's and civic si's that run better times than that. A 1991 SHO should be able to hit low 15's at least. My car has been well-maintained, and it has pretty low miles.

R/T doesn't count towards the 1/4 mile run. The 1/4 mile timers don't start until you launch and cross the second staging beam. You only have to worry about R/T in bracket racing or when racing the driver in the other lane. So you could sit at the line for 2 minutes and still run a 15.2.

Anyways, I agree with the above, you probably just need some practice. The 2.7 60' time suggests you need to focus on the launch. Most people who run good times can get their 60' down under 2.4. That alone would knock 0.5 off your times. Then practice speed shifting and try to shift at the same RPM each time.(usually between 7000 and 7300RPM) Each improvement in your technique will knock off a tenth or 2 and eventually you'll be running low 15's.

88mph is a pretty low trap speed though. It's usually a good indicator of how much power your car is putting to the wheels.(whereas ET is a good indicator of your driving skill) So if you don't see any improvements in your trap speed, you may want to look into why your car isn't making as much power as it should.

A SHO with problems is a slow car. You have to be able to abuse the car pretty well to get the really good times.

Z24's i'm about 95% sure those thing don't run 15.6's. maybe with 100octane and a 50mph wind carrying them they could. Z24'shave maybe 140flywheel horsepower i do believe.

Manual z24's run mid-high 15's in the 1/4 mile. It's a driver's race with the Civic SI. On one of my runs, I hit 90mph, but I ran a 16.8. I'm trying to decide if I want to fix my SHO, or become involved in another platform. I love my SHO, but it just looks like it'll become a money pit eventually, no matter what.

Not trying to be an a$$, but what else is there? At the tracks I have been to, even test and tune sessions are run like bracket racing. Am I missing something?

130,000 Miles, K&N filter, Y pipe, cat back, chip, 14.81 ET :D
It took all of that to get a 14.81?? I had nearly bald tires, no cats, stock air filter and 118k miles and ran 14.75. :) Guess it just depends on the engine that comes off the production line. Some are stronger than others. 14.81 is a good time, though.

yellowsho, the r/t is not reflected in the e.t. it only plays a rols when you are bracket racing as stated before. A bracket race is whoever gets to the finish line first WITHOUT breaking out. You can run a 15.0 on a 15.0 dial against a 16.2 on a 16.0 dial and if your R/T is 2 tenths slower or more then you lose, because he is going to get to the finsh before you.

slowsho,
your name fits you very appropriately :p
I can't say too much... :D My one time at the track in my 90 (12 runs) was a 10.4. I dynod it a couple months ago... 160 HP, 170 ft. lbs. tq
Oh yeah... this is WITH a catless hi flow Y, K&N, full 60Ketc...
Good thing about these #'s is I have decided to STOP putting any more $ into my 90 sho :)
I think my problem though is either valve guide seals (I am losing 1 quart of oil every 300 miles) or maybe still an exhaust flow problem.
BTW, my track time was 1/8 mile. Best 60 ft. was 2.5. Best trap was 69 mph.
What were your 1/8 mile times and traps? Is your sho mtx or atx?

I have a 94 ATX with 160,000 on the clock.

Last night I hit 14.0 99.95 MPH on the bottle, and a best of 15.4 91.00 MPH n/a.

I went to the track last night with my "factory freak" wearing a worn clutch and 70k treadwear rated tires.

At 4700 Ft elevation, I ran a 15.57. Corrected to sea level its a 14.67. I'm pretty pleased. I just happened to rip off a good launch, and after that it was all throttle.

I'm pretty happy. It was very cool out, which accounts for the good times I think. That and the extra HP I've got over the factory rated. :D
