Okay so i get a pending code. bank 1 runners stuck shut. I'm confused I know 100% my butterfly's are clean and my cable is intact.

I can hear them open at 3400rpm yet if I rev the car in my driveway with my hand on the throttle I dont see them pull open.

Not sure whats going is this an intermittent issue?

Throwing this one in from deep right field . . .
any chance that the PCM omits signal to IMRC when car is in park or neutral?

I heard they were supposed to open when you first start the car

Have someone eyeball it during start up. If you see it pull and release during start up and hear it while driving, I'd say you're good.
Did you clear the code only to have it come back?

Yeah it keeps coming back alot.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the wiring. the guy before me had hacked up some wiring.

I also gett a camshaft position sensor code. and when I pull off the loom i discovered that there was terminals. 2 on each wire yes 2. one side of the the terminals were exposed and i could see the inside of the wires. also there was some oil in 1 of the terminals.

Im gonna have to get a new connector and try and re do it.

the reason why I say this is because I just noticed the wiring diagram says the cam sensor is tied into the intake runner control module?

As Stephen suggested, check guts of the IMRC, if you haven't already. Is there a chance that it isn't doing it's job just seldom enough that you haven't noticed it? Perhaps it works fine after cold starts and not so well at steady state temps. I'd clear code again, unhook battery for a while, etc. let everything get down to ambient temps. Restart and look for operation there. While things are still somewhat cool, try a few low to medium throttle runs through 3400 and listen each time for secondaries, watching tach to verify they're opening @ 3400. Let motor temps get up to steady and do a few more similar light throttle runs. Now this is beyond my knowledge base, but perhaps the sensors that detect motor speed and whether or not the IMRC operation is invoked are not on the same page (IE if the motor speed is, say, 3500 before IMRC activates, this might kick out the code) OR perhaps the IMRC gears are slipping at higher temps, getting back to original reply (and beginning of this one!)

Somebody with more knowledge on this logic will hopefully chime in.

Shoot, just read your update. Yeah, that's a game changer.

I read your reply I still agree it could be the omrc motor. But they open every time at 3400 just drove it.

but for now I cleaned the wiring drenched in contact cleaner and used self fusing tape sealed evrything up. so im gonna see what it does.

the sensor is new and i made sure it doesnt leak oil fron the where the snesor goies into the head but as i said there was def oil in one of the wiring terminals.

It should open even if sitting in park. If I may suggest, the simple thing to do that is commonly done on these motors is to just wire open the intakes. Turns out it makes no difference other than changing the sound at 3400.

I think I have had mine wired open since 1999, or maybe 2000. Works great, never any starting troubles, etc. The IMRC can even be removed completely. You will get a code but once you clear it there will never be another. Some people have gone so far as to remove the butterflies completely and seal up the axle mount indentations.

Really wow. I have to do some further inspection have some put it in part while I watch the imrc.

Anyway so i cleaned the camshaft wiring and sealed it with self fusing tape and my codes never came back.

Oddly enough the evap monitor finished within only 15 mins of driving ive never gotten the evap monitor to pass this quickly so weird.

Noticeable difference in power right?
Was it the plastic gear in the IMRC that went?

Yeah it solved the engine choking symptom that happens when i revved it in park. Not sure if it feels like the computer likes having IMRC not working tho.

and yes it was that plastic gear. i saw a crack in it and it moved independently from that cog.

I feel like my computer wants the imrc to be working tho.

Yes, it will, but it will shift over to ignoring it if the butterflies are forced to remain in the open position. Just clear the code when it comes up a couple of times and you are done, unless you have an additional problem that this is only allowing to now show up.
