What I find crazy is the whole taillight assembly needs to be replaced. Who's bright idea was it to not make the chrome trim a separate piece? I'm having mine replaced this week but can't wait until it does it again outside of the warranty period when it's on my dime.

Probably the same guy that designed the chrome trim that peels in the first place

I just noticed my taillight chrome is now peeling (built 9/29/09). I will be calling my dealer for a new set soon. I also noticed 2 spots on my grille where the chrome is bubbling up. Anyone else have this chrome issue?
Chrome on my 2010 is starting to peel as well. Built in 9/09 so looks like I will be heading to the dealer as well.

I don't have that problem as I have replaced mine with the non-chrome versions from an SEL.

I didn't even think of that. I prefer the non Chrome look as well. I called the dealer but it was too late since they already have the new taillights in stock. Anyone know how much the non-chrome setup goes for if I'd like to buy a set?

Got the new ones installed today. So far so good even after a quick wash. Hopefully the chrome will hold up better.

I noticed today that mine have started to peel as well, build date of 2/10.
I'll have to try and find a SEL to see how they look as that seems like a good idea.

Picked my new 2010 sho, noticed tailight chrome peeling, dealer is taking pictures to get ford approval for replacement. I suspect this will be an issue for the life of the car.

Mine peeled as well. Noticed it the day after I bought it. Took it back to dealer and he replaced the tail lights, no problem. Hope it was just a bad run of plating and it doesn't happen again.

Chrome Peel

Same problem. I bought mine in NC and took it back to the dealership a month later with peeling on 2 of the 4 lights. They took pictures and approved the replacement a few days later but couldn't execute the work for about 3 weeks due to part shortages from the supplier. That may have been an indicator of a more widespread problem.

Same thing happened to mine. I noticed it the day after I brought it home and took it to the dealership and he order the new tail lights and replaced no problem. Hope this solves the problem, maybe just a bad batch of plating on the tail light chrome.

Hey guys. New to the forum. I just wanted to chime in here and let you know that I picked up my 2011 last Thursday.

Had the car detailed on Friday and the owner of the detail shop brought me out to look at all the chrome issues. The tail light pieces were peeling, the FORD badge on the rear had chunks out of the chrome, and the ****** was all the rust that was on the pieces around the SHO badge and the chrome window strips. Car had 90 miles on it when I bought it and am more than a little upset. I hope this is not a pre-lude to further quality issues. If the outside of the car is showing this kind of lousy workmanship, what about the rest of the car?

Well my SHO has lead a charmed life. It sits in the garage most days and never sees the rain. Well, I had a project going and had to put it out in the driveway for a couple of days. It got fairly cold during the nights and fairly warm during the days, and low and behold.... The chrome popped off without even moving it or washing it, or touching it even. It must be from the expansion and contraction of the plastic during temperature changes. The car was built 2/10. I'm going to make the trek to the dealer and I hope they don't give me any problems getting them replaced....

Pics for anyone interested:

You shouldn't have a problem. I believe most dealerships are hip to the flaking problem. I replaced mine in March and wash it weekly. Haven't see them flake since.

Well the dealership seemed reluctant, but Ford stepped up and approved it without issue. They got the parts in one day and took care of it..... I'm a happy customer so far.... :sun:
