Paint them with PlastiDip. I did mine 2 years ago and they look awesome. $10 for the can and an afternoon of light work. A much better alternative to replacing them with new ones that will peel again. But if you're buying new ones, get the SE ones that don't have chrome surrounds.

Can you please post a picture? Did you mask it off and used a small modeling paint brush? Did you dremel the old chrome off first?

The dealer said they are not covered after the 35000 mile warranty

I will take photos later today but all I did was lightly sand the chrome (or what was left of it) and then masked it off while on the car. Then I sprayed 3 light coats of PlastiDip per the instructions, waiting the recommended time between coats. I am not really handy but I was able to do this.

Sorry guys, here you go. I'm in the audiovisual business but I'm such a doofus when it comes to online sites.

I sprayed them black, looks better to my eye. Thoughts?

I may do the two painted bars in the grille next. I've seen others do it and it looks good to me.

Thank you! The rain drops obscure it some - but it looks like you got a smooth surface and the black is good complementary color. I was / am kind of concerned about getting all the chrome off and starting with a smooth surface. I am thinking red plasti coat - but also considering body color spray paint. I wash my car a lot and don't know which would be more durable, I've never used plasti-coat before.

Well the Plasticoat has been on over a year now. Has gone through a winter and probably 25 car washes. So far it has been completely durable. I have not tried this but I hear that the Plasticoat can be peeled off if we ever decide to make a change. Body color seems like another good idea. Roughing up the surface should be enough, you should not have to completely remove the chrome. I will take better shots when the weather improves.

That is Plastidip. I suppose paint would work as well but I was intrigued with this because you could "go back" by peeling it off.

Greetings Gents!

I just purchased a 2010 CPO SHO (still under B2B) and I just noticed that my chrome is flaking off after my first wash. Do you think that they will charge me a $100 deductible to replace the tail lights or will it be covered at no cost under my bumper to bumper?

I don't think the chrome is covered past the 3yr/36k bumper to bumper.
I recently took mine in to have all 4 lens changed, for the third time in three years. I'll be at 36k in a month or so. I'm hoping that these will not peel.
Of course, while at the dealer getting them replaced, the mechanic dropped a taillight on the bumper and made a huge, deep, scratch into the plastic. Now they have to repair and repaint. I'm hoping they match it.

I called Ford Customer service and complained. They gave me a substantial discount on replacement parts even though mine was out of warranty.

I've got the Premium Care Warranty and it doesn't cover the peeling chrome on the tail lamps. Hopefully some aftermarket company starts making exotic blacked out tail lamps and I can just replace them anyway.

I just had my 2012 taillights replace under the 3/36. If they peel again, and I'm sure they will, going to replace them with SE no chrome taillights.
