URGENT - Oil Pump Pickup Tube Gasket

I need one ASAP!! I was inspecting my rod bearings again and found it had cracked!

How much are they from the dealer?

Can I get them anywhere else, local parts stores, etc...

There is a ford warehouse here and an account I can order under.

What do you think it will cost?

If anyone in the utah has one I would gladly come pick it up right now!

Forever if you apply the right type in the right way. Use one that is suitable for high temp oils. A thin and even coat and let it firm up. You're not gluing the two pieces together, you're just sealing out air so that the oil pump doesn't cavitate. Too much and it will squeeze out around the edges and might get into the oil passageways, a very bad thing.

You can leave the old split gasket on if you'd like. Let it cure for 24 hours. Disconnect the DIS when you go to start it and crank until the oil light goes out. Once it goes out, plug the DIS back in and start her up.

You'll be fine.

Plus, the gasket is cheap (2 bucks) and readily available at most parts store. Fel-Pro 70149

Good call on the EGR gasket. I can't think of a better solution...even cutting one out of a sheet of gasket material.

Just talked to Ford, the pickup tube gasket is obsolete! Unless you want to pay for a set of gaskets you cant get it from them, BUT, they have the EGR gasket for $4.50! Works for me.

Will I need to modify it at all? Or do all the holes line up and are the same size?

You will have to modify it. Did you try a plain old parts store? When Ford says something is obsolete, they mean that they can no longer make a ton of money from it because autozone sells it for 1/5 their price.

if you e-mail RCM they can sell you a pickup tube gasket seprately. but if you need one ASAP you may be better off modifying the EGR gasket.

You will see what needs to be enlarged when you put the EGR gasket up against the pickup tube ******. The inportant thing to remember is that there shouldn't be any gasket overhang on the inside; outside is okay. The EGR gasket is also thicker than the stock pickup gasket.

All I ever did was elongate the bolt holes. Never messed with the large passageway hole.

ahh, I just got home I will grab the broken one and see what needs to be done to it. if its just the bolt holes thats even better


Hmmm, this one is foil lined... Is that going to be an issue?

Ford uses three parts availability status':

• Available - actively stocked by Ford and available through most dealers in one day.
  
  
• Discontinued - no longer actively stocked by Ford, but still available through Ford's distribution system. May take more than one day shipping to arrive at your dealer.
  
  
• Obsolete - no longer actively stocked or available through Ford's distribution system. Existing inventory limited to dealers that have actual stock.

Ford maintains most parts until the vehicle is more than 10 years since production (except for Gen III SHOs). How Ford decides when to discontinue maintaining an inventory for any particular part after 10 years, is based upon two criteria - turnover rate, and popularity.

Turnover rate - higher turnover rate = more likely to be mainatained as an active part. This is why camshaft seals are still available and pan seals have been discontinued. Pan seals are not routinely changed during the 60k, and there are three times as many cam seals to be changed ever 60,000 miles (if done).

Popularity - if it's a Mustang part, it's much more likely to remain an active inventory item, than a part for a Gen III SHO . . . . (Ford would like to see them all die, and forever forget the term "cam failed").
