So i come home and pops had already started on the bearings, don't bother me none. They all look fine, a little worn but nothin crazy, except this one...

First off, i did use the little flower on the camera, camera just sucks, but you can cleary see where the dimples are.

This is the number 2 rod. The top bearing doesnt look like this, my dad already had the new bearings on but he said he turned the crank completely and looked closely for any imperfections in the crank, but he obviously only went with what his eyes could see.

So what the **** is up? theres 6 dimples in the bearing, they go just past the first layer of metal. Wouldnt the top bearing be the same or have some similar marks?

I'm scared shitless.

Cant tell with the blurry pics, but what I can make out it looks pitted. Never seen them like that before. All I can say is good thing you did them when you did.

yea as mentioned i tried my best, if the lights good theres glare in the bearing, if not its too dark, with the flash or not, with both camera settings, normal and the flower one, dont know which each means someone should tell me so i can stop calling it the flower.

Anyways, its cleary pitted, they're not detailed but you can make out every one of them.

EDIT: I have seen more then a couple sets of used rod bearings in picture on the forum. Ive seen scratches, never just dots. I just wanna make sure im not gonna throw a rod upon start up.

Was there any damage where the bearing seats on the crank?

My pops says there wasnt and he turned it all the way over. But thats what he said, he does wear glasses. The only reason the other bearings are back on and torque down is so i can turn it again to see if it scratches the bearings, is that a good idea, or no? i didnt plan on just throwing it back together.

The Flower  Is called the Macro setting. The macro setting changes the focus of the camera so it can focus on very close objects. The macro setting is for photographing objects within a few inches or feet away.

Now you can stop calling it the flower :thumb:

As long as the journals on the crank are ok you will be fine. Dont know what could have caused it, best guess would be debris or particles got lodged in there and tore it up. Possibly lack of oil changes or introduction of foreign particles. Either way they were excessively worn, good thing you changed them.

My guess is something in the oil attacked the copper in the bearings. Perhaps an oil additive at too high a concentration for too long, lack of oil changes, incorrect oil, or a combination of those plus the car sitting for a long time. Use a top quality 10W-30 motor oil with nothing added to it and your new bearings should do fine.
