WTF is that?

Only happens now and then (only happens once when I first start the car)...When I put the car in REVERSE I can hear a hissing sound like a vaccum leak or something coming from the shifter. As soon as I take it out of reverse, the hissing stops. ideas?

Sounds like the parking brake automatic release?

There's a vacuum servo to release the parking brake. It's activated momentarily when the trans lever is moved from park through reverse and neutral to drive. Either the hose has fallen off the servo, or the servo is leaking.
