On my 1989 MTX, I just got everything back together. I had taken the trans off, installed a stage 1 clutch masters clutch and 17lb flywheel.
Just started the car to test drive it, but there seems to be an issue with the trans. When the gear shift is in neutral, the car is actually in reverse (when I let out the clutch the car goes backwards). When I put the shifter into reverse, the car also does go backward.
When I put the shifter into 1st, the car doesn't go forward when letting out the clutch.
The shifter does go into all 5 gears and reverse.
Any ideas? One possibility is that maybe these issues are caused by tightening the pressure plate bolts too tight? I used new ARP pressure plate and flywheel bolts. I tightened more than OEM, because ime that's usually how it goes for ARP bolts.
Otherwise maybe I didn't reassemble the trans correctly in some way.
I may end up taking the car to a transmission shop, since this is my first time working on a trans. Any SHO trans specialists in Los Angeles/Socal area?
