I'm close to finishing reassembling my '89 MTX after doing a new clutch and trans rebuild. I kept the existing axles. The issue is the passenger side axle. When I initially installed it, it sat nice and flush in the trans/differential. Then when I bolted it to the support bracket, I noticed that it now sits a little out of the trans. Any ideas?

My only idea right now is that somehow the support bracket is adjustable, maybe I can adjust it. it doesn't make sense to me though, since everything seems to be where it was before, such as the engine/trans mounts etc. I guess another idea is that the subframe needs to be adjusted/aligned? Just thinking out loud here.

See the photo.

I'm pretty sure a slight gap is normal, and as long as its bolted to the support you should be fine

That said, I'm not confident on my answer this time

That is normal. There is no adjustment. The intermediate shaft bolts to the bracket which in turn bolts to the engine which in turn bolts to the subframe. When everything is installed it's all one solid unit. You should be able to look at the shaft and see the polished area where it sits in the seal and the non polished area where the seal ends.

That's great news. I will look more closely to see where the polished and non polished area ends. In the photo you can see that plastic thing which is not sitting flush, so that was my first concern.
