Hmm, the plug shown in Post #17 doesn't appear to have been connected to anything recently, so that's probably not the issue. I will try to pull up the factory service manual this evening. I'm guessing that the relays are located in the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) panel, but I don't have much experience with the Gen 1. My first SHO was a Gen 2 (1993).
I don't know what the item is that you found near the steering column. I wonder if that's the switch for the "key in" chime that senses when the key is in the ignition and will sound the chime if you open the driver's door with the key still in the cylinder.
