I'm looking for the MAP/BARO Sensor on my 93 ATX. So far I've only been told or found approx locations. So far it's 'around' the top center of the firewall. I've looked everywhere i can see on the firewall and see NOTHING resembling the MAP/BARO sensor (yes, i pulled the black cover). I'm sure that Ford put it in the same spot on all the SHO's, so can anyone tell me it's EXACT location? A pic would be even better. Thanks.

thanks for the pic man. But not only do I not have that, I don't even see a place for it. All i have in that spot is a black cube, that looks like it's welded onto teh firewall, with an electrical connector. And a black cylindar, with two air lines and a connector. Any thoughts?

Okay, right where the baro sensor is on your pic, I have that black cylinder. It has two tiny vacuum connections that go to a diaphram looking thing. And it has an electrical connector. IS this a Gen2 ATX thing?

here, check out a pic of my engine bay. You can just barely make out the black cube i speak of in the cut away spot on the black cover.

Dude, you have an ATX. You don't have a baro sensor!

You probably would have had that answer in the first response if you listed info on your car in your signature! :bonk:

On the ATX (and some CA MTX's) there's an EGR solenoid. The black cube you speak of is an airbag sensor, and is missing in jelloslug's picture.

Yes. Tonight's winning lottery numbers. (However I will know them once they are drawn, just as I'm sure to know that I didn't win. Again.)

Probably. Just look at the vacuum diagram on your radiator sight shield for signs of the EGR system, or you can look for the EGR valve (top looks somewhat like a flying saucer, but mounted sideways) located on the rear of the intake, behind the throttle body.

Since the question has been asked ... ;)

- that "black cylinder" with the "two tiny vacuum connections that go to a diaphram looking thing" is the EGR vacuum regulator, an item which regulates the amount of vacuum that is applied to the EGR valve and, in turn, determines how little or how much the EGR valve will open:

- the "silver box-shaped thingy" mounted on the back of the intake is the DPFE sensor (item 3), which is what the EEC uses to measure EGR flow and, in the absence of an actual BAP sensor, calculate BARO readings. The "flying saucer" object mounted to the back of the intake behind the throttle body that Chris mentioned is the EGR valve (item 7), which is what actually lets the spent exhaust gases back into the intake:

More info about the how the EGR system works on the Taurus can be found here:

I was not aware that the ATX did not have a BARO sensor.

So of course now the question I have is: Why a BARO sensor on the MTX and not on the ATX? Emissions thing? Is it supposed to make up for the lack of an EGR system (I would assume by allowing more complete engine control)? Or is there another reason?

ok what is a BARO sensor?
BARO is another name for the barometric pressure sensor, or BAP. On vehicles so equipped, it is used by the EEC for determining the approximate atmospheric pressure of the incoming intake charge and is responsible for various spark adder/retard functions. On MTX cars, the sensor is located on the firewall towards the center (as seen in Mitchell's pic above). Since ATX cars do not utilize a BAP sensor, BP readings are inferred by the EEC through a combination of MAF, TPS and ACT sensor inputs.
