found gasket @ Home Depot

Auto Zone said water mount kit will be in by Tuesday or Wednesday. Too long for me, I found a black ring gasket at Home Depot that was a perfect fit. Old one just cracked in half with a small screwdriver, new one rolled right on. Test drove it till the fan kicked on, then drove it and took it through the car wash. I had to turn it off while the dried her and then restarted her and dogged her out a little bit. No hissing, no leaks. FYI: the gasket is for kitchen faucets, come in a two pack. :woo-hoo:

the opposite end of this water crossover tube...

yeah, ran great for a day... now it is leaking from other end, on the water pump, i guess. I kinda expected that.. figuring the next weakest spot was its twin ring gasket there.
Anyone doing a meet in S.Cali ? since i am going in for this one gasket, might as well get timing belt and cam / crank seals and such? or is removing the intake enough?

It's not too terribly hard. I put off doing things to my car for so long b/c I was intimidated, then I finally jumped in once I had a garage, my brother to help, plenty of time, and some good tools. (See sig quote for my motivation). I'm one of the worst when it comes to being mechanically inclined on this forum and almost require my hand to be held the whole way through. Break it down into little steps, LABEL or set aside everything you remove so you will REMEMBER how to put it back together. The only thing that can slow you down are stuck bolts. If you get stuck on something, make a post on the forum or call someone on the forum. I've done it and always had help immediately.

so can I just remove the tube, by way of removing the thermostat housing again. Will it just pull out or is it bolted in. should have checked when I was in there...remember, this hard SSteel tube runs under the fuel rails from the water pump to the thermostat.

ok, so I was just informed that this hard pipe just pulls out from thermostat side. no bolts holding it in, just the O'rings on each side.

great, then fixing it later. Never occurred to me it was not bolted in, & anyway removing TBody & thermostat is not intimidating any longer. In fact, I am pretty quick at it after 4 times.
