Ok i'm a new member and i have a 93 white atx with  147,500  ! I need help. Here is my story. I am 14 yrs old with a learners permit. I have always wanted a Red 93 Mustang GT, untill my brother and i raced one in his sho. We humiliated the GT. OK so i found a 93 SHO for 500 and i bought it. . I have almost everything rong with it. But the only thing you can help me with is the motor. It misses. My brother and i put some wires on it. It ran good for 10 miles then boom it started missing again. Pulled all the wires and put contact greese on them and nothing helped. So now when you start it it sounds like crap. After it gets warmed up and you lets say get on it and then the next stop sign you come to it bounces from 500 rpm to 1200 rpm. And if you don't give it gas it will die!! Please Help Me. I need to have it running! Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks.

first off with those miles. Was there alot of oil on the plug wires and down in the plug wells when you guys changed the wires?
You might have a wire pop loose if the oil is the case or even the oil is causing a short. Before I changed my valve cover gaskets I had one wire that would pop loose from it's connection because of the oil. This is all assuming your valve cover gaskets are leaking.
Also, if you have the oil in the wells it's a good sign it's time to do the 60k maitenence. This involves adjusting the valve lash, new timeing belt, valve cover gasketts, and cleaning and replaceing old sensors. You can go all out and do the water pump, hoses, new acc. belt but some things can wait if you are strapped for cash like me :thumb:

The 60k is suppose to make the car feel younge again.

93 atx=ew. Be sure to buy a du41 from a 94 or 95 atx, and save up for that tranny rebuild.

Run codes on that car before doing random stuff to it. Like stated before, do the 60k maintenace. It will cost more than what you paid for your car.

If your car is in need of a 60k tune up at high miles it will be expensive if you do not opt to do it yourself. if you want to keep the beast running strong youll have to throw down some $$$ and have it done. On the other hand if you want to do it yourself and save some bread visit www.shophoenixproject.com. This site is very informative, and will give you a good idea of what youre getting into. Have fun!

Have you tried running the codes? Or a cyclinder balance test?

the kid is right, i have beaten many 93-98 stangs. the reason is the 5.0 for 87-92 had 225 hp for 93 they droped the horespower to 210 and that was over rated at that. but yes the 4.6 then was no match.

This is not the BB section, please keep your responses limited to technical information regarding the mechanical isssues at hand please.

In regards to the problems with the car, you really need to run the codes and post back with the results. Instructions on how to do this can be found on SHOTimes.com website

Once you have that information, then you'll be a little bit more prepared with information we're going to need in order to help you.

Other questions that pop into my mind are:
What brand wires and plugs did you use?
Did you reset your idle properly if at all?

There are more things that I could ask, but the first thing to do really when a problem comes up is to check those codes. I can't stress that enough.

The paper clip trick wont work if your CE light is burned out, like mine is. :frown:

There are cheap plug-in scan tools for Ford's old EEC-IV computers. Either replace the bulb for the CE light or get one. You can't properly diagnose a sick car without codes.

Good luck.

you can also use a needle type multimeter to check codes. All you do is count the needle sweeps. Although I can't remember how to hook it up......

Good point. I haven't heard of that in years! Had totally forgotten about that trick.

I'm sure there's a description of how to do it somewhere on this Forum if somebody (stevemainian) really wants to do it!

To test with an ohm meter, jumper the test connector just as you would when doing the self test. One end of the wire or clip ot the signal return and the other goes to the small STI connector. The ohm meter is connected by connecting the positive lead to the positive battery connector. The negative lead goes to the self test out pin in the large connector. That would be the 2nd pin from the left on the bottom of the large test connector. Technically this is pin #4 of the test connector aka Self Test Out pin.

Once connected, run the test as normal except you watch the sweeps of the needle versus watching the CE light. You can have someone else turn the key to on or, if your leads are long enough on the Ohm meter, you can prop it up on the hood and watch the needle from the comfort of your car.

I'll post a pic shortly.

Are the wires going to the right cylinders? Some of the manuals for the SHO are wrong. I think the Haynes is one of them. Anyways you might want to check that.
