The car ahead of you is the best way to go. I always let the idiot that's going 90 get ahead and use him as bait. Problem with real radar/laser detectors now is that many PDs use closed beams so the radar/laser detector won't chrip until their gun is pointed at your car. That's at least what I've heard and in one case had to deal with. headbang

the valentine 1 is sweet... if you wanna pay $400. it has directional arrows that tell you where the laser is coming from. althought i have a passport 8500, its just as good as the valentine 1 without the arrows, and it only cost me $300

my cheep 100 buck whistler has picked up cops close to 1/2 a mile away in the past, just the other night it picked up a cop on the other side of a rather large bend in the road

Cheap is relative. The Val 1 is $400.00 but a ticket is much more when you consider the increase in insurance rates for the next five years.

The arrows on the Val 1 are one of it's best features. Twice yesterday my Val 1 went off with Ka radar to the rear. Both times I could not see anyone in the mirrors. This is a range of over two miles here in the flatlands. I know before I can get over 4 miles warning depending on how high the radar gun signal is set.

My opinion is that radar detectors are just an early warning device for when you're going to get a ticket.

Personal opinion, V1. I'm inclined to suggest that if you're on the highway a lot, your best bet is the V1 along with a CB radio. Listen to the truckers, and keep an eye out on traffic ahead. It's been my experience that most drivers will hit their brakes - even when they're doing the speed limit - as soon as they see a cop. Keep an eye out for those brake lights, listen to the truckers and as a last line of defense keep your ear peeled for the V1.

Benvie- nice sig pic, but you look a little different. You get a hair cut for Christmas???

I have an 8500 and am very pleased with it. Ka from over 2 miles away at times. I have yet to get a ticket with the Passpoert on, and I speed every once in a while having a turbo SHO :D

Can't go wrong with the V1 either, I just liked how the Passport looked.

That is the case for laser only. Even the best radar guns aren't precise like that. But yeah, try to not be first in line and look for brakes.

But V1 is the best. Over 9 years now with NO tickets on radar. People who say the arrows are no big deal have never used or learned to use them. Arrows are worth MUCH MUCH more than the $100 difference over the Passport. (C'mon Tim!)

Rocky Mountain Radar is absolutely, by far the biggest scam in the industry. Do not, under any circumstances, ever consider buying anything from these scam artists. Passive jammers do not work. Only active jammers work and they are governed and essentially banned by the FCC. That's why they are legal, because they do not work.

Valentine 1 and Lidatek will make you extremely tough to catch. Laser jammers DO work(not governed by the FCC) and are legal in most states.
