E30 is 94 octane. For comparison, unleaded race gas is 100-104 depending on retailer. E85 is 108. A 2013 PP is advertised with ~13.7@103. I am guessing that is with premium (91 or 93 octane depending on retailer). So if a tune, plugs, and a 1-3 octane bump shaved 1.14s off the 1/4 for you, I'm guessing it is not to crazy (or anything unordinary) for you to be able to shave another .24s off your time by increasing 9-13 octane. So my comment stands, stating a full weight, stock car, with only a tune, was able to run a 12.32 because of the tuners abilities while failing to mention the car is running high octane fuel is very deceitful. It is wanting attention and bragging right where none are due. It is like I said comparable to anyone else comparing a car with a power adder/mod to a car without the power adder/mod. Higher octane will enable many things that cannot be done on the stock form car. I'm sure you know this and that is part of the reason you run E30.

Ehh, his point was that he had no other mechanical mods. Fuel is available to everyone at a minimal cost, take advantage of what's available to you.

We've been 12.56 on 93 no other mods and 12.36 on E30 no other mods, and have customers running 12.01 with nothing other than an E30 tune on an XDI HPFP. It's a backwards way to mod for sure, but it delivers and he's running just as fast as the E30 meth guys in his area with much fewer mods.

If we were all willing to share our knowledge with each other instead of having rap battles, we'd prolly be in the 10s by now.

You nailed it Lee. Well said. However we all know our platform sucks for actual drag racing faster than an 11.50.

My point was my SHO did more with LESS mechanical mods as well without meth. Fuel was not a factor because both cars were on E30.

Ok man. First, the ECU doesn't have any control over a driver's reaction time so that's why I took it out of the equation. It's called normalizing the data. It was just to help put a visual frame of reference to what that time difference looks like with all else held equal. Who really cares?

I'm sorry you think it deceitful. I'm not chasing accolades. I was being goaded into whatever childish tuner tribe wars people play about who's tune is fastest and simply setting the record straight. But, the statement stands - if you know anyone that's done better, with any fuel, you go ahead and let me know. Because as @FiveLeeter918 pointed out, I'm quite far from being the first to run high octane fuel in my car.

I also didn't verify my tire pressure was at oem specs so I suppose that disqualifies my times too... smh...

Well said. And I personally don't find anything backwards about it. High octane seems to render an intercooler upgrade useless at this point, and that $800 left in my pocket is enough to buy me a lifetime supply of C10 for track days.

93 mixed with true e85 should be a hair over 96 octane
Is that all? Assuming a true E85 fuel and a 93 octane fuel (no ethanol), I calculated you would need to use 5.29g of E85 and 9.71g of 93 to get 15g of E30. Using this calculator, with 5g of 108 fuel and 10g of 93 fuel, it says you should have 98 octane.

95% of fuel tanks around the country aren't seeing a true E85 blend right now, if ever. My local stations are rarely over a 72% concentration, and right now if I gas up completely from the E85 tank I'm lucky to see 60% on my ECA.

Pump e85 is typically rated to a combustion energy equivalent of 105 octane, unless you are using R or C rated gas or getting a custom cut blend from E99.

In addition, I rarely see 93 octane fuel burn at the full potential of 93 octane. I see often times where a customers knocks on 93 but does fine on 91. Is this due to a contaminated 93 tank since it sees far less usage, or potentially watered down? Who knows. It's an apples to oranges comparison to compare corn oil to race fuel, but if it's available to you and we can tune with it, go for it. I know E85 isn't as readily available in some parts of the country, but here in the central states it's on every street corner so I run it year round without issue.

All of our 93 is E10, however when I followed the calculator I have for E40...I came up with E50 both times when I used the ethanol tester I have. But I didn’t check the VP X85 or the 93 separately.

I was hoping to experiment with it but apparently I live to far in the country. The last place anywhere near my daily commute to have it just closed up.

If you started with E72 instead of a true E85, wouldn't you just add more E72 to achieve E30? In this case 6.25g. Isn't the end result still E30? Since you are mixing it, you can control that it comes out to the correct E30.

Please don't take this as a challenge of your knowledge. I am new to this and trying to understand. I am using what I can find online and struggling through this. I ask a lot of questions because I want to understand better.

I also found a cool calculator on BCB page that will let you calculate 2 fuels with a known octane rating and ethanol percentages. A LOT easier then how I started.

Yes but as you're doing that you're also using adding 87 octane to the tank which slightly degrades back the value. If pump E85 were cut with 91/93 we'd be in a much better place but since it's 15-30% 87 octane it sucks down the octane. That's why when you see a gas station selling E85 it's $1.69 a gallon but if you see a race shop selling E85 (pump no can) it's $4+ a gallon. They're usually cutting it themselves with E99 and 93 octane.

For 95% of racers you'll never see a performance difference between E70 and E85, in our testing you really don't get any benefit of true E85 until you are over 800whp. The calculators get you close enough that the fuel trims don't freak out too much, but as long as you aren't seeing knock and fuel pressure is happy it doesn't make that big of a deal.

There is a great article on the supra forums I linked in another thread here somewhere about Air flow vs Colder air. With an intercooler swap only (went from horizontal to vertical flow) his IAT2 went up but gained 20whp on the dyno. Boost was able to hold higher/longer over the rpm range because it was able to flow significantly better. Wonder if that is the minor downfall of the GHIC, great IAT2 temps at the cost of flow? Either way it can certainly help make power but just wanted to throw the info out there.
Gained flow not lost but PV=nRT

You are discounting the effects of direct injection with ethanol fuels. Octane is currently tested with antiquated methods that don't take this into account.

You win that argument since octane tolerance is what an intercooler gets you. You could go faster with no intercooler at all if you have unlimited octane....

To answer OP, I’m seeing 20 lbs of boost on the Gearhead tune. I picked up the car today from GHT with the AOL & E30 tune. It rained all day and I had my kids so I didn’t initially have a lot of opportunity to get on it. The rain stopped by dark and the roads dried pretty quickly. I live near a major Army base which has a high concentration of sports cars of every type. The wife wanted to see the difference between my car and our 2021 Explorer ST. Soooo we dropped off the kids and went out for 45 minute drive and had a few notable incidents.

First one was pretty hilarious, I was in the right lane of a three car highway when an BMW and Charger came screaming down the left two lanes. I punch it and quickly catch both. The charger noticed me the moment I caught up and immediately slammed on the brakes. He then pulled over to the far right lanes so fast it startled everybody else on the highway. I guess he thought he was getting pulled over??

A few miles later I get off the highway and some heavily modified early 90’s civic with body kit, ground effects, led wheels comes cooking past me and also SLAMS on the brakes. I gave the SHO some freedom when the civic passed me and I think he also thought he was getting pulled over. He pulled into a parking lot and hid... with his led light show. What looked maybe an old SRT4 passes me when I slow down watching the Civic driver catch his breath. I tried to catch the SRT4 but a few vehicles turned in front of me. I had to slam on the brakes and make an emergent lane change to avoid T-boning an ******* on their cellphone. SRT 4 escapes.

I hadn’t even made it to the street that I expected all shenanigans on yet and it’s already been an interesting night. A couple miles later I turn onto shenanigan street and I pull up next to a Hemi Charger! I give him a lame ass rev with my stock exhaust. He returns the favor with some loud V-8 thunder. The turns green and we both take off. He said nope pretty quickly and let off when, I don’t think he expected to the SHO to pull away from him off the jump.

Another BMW had noticed this and passed in the left lane when I was cruising away from the Charger. This BMW also had ground effects and was the fastest car I encountered on the night. He probably pasted me going 20 mph over what I was cruising at. I pursue and catch him but it did take some effort. BMW eventually slows down pulls into a Sunoco with a dozen or so other imports.

What a first night with the E30 tune! The car did really well and maintained boost throughout every pull. I need to get some wider tires.
