Weird clutch issue.

My clutch sometimes doesn't engage all the time. I will put the car into first gear and let out on the clutch while giving it some gas and it will start to not engage but then engage all of a sudden which leads to a jerky acceleration in first gear. A couple of times I have the clutch pedal all the out way and and I am not moving at all while in 1st. All the other gears none of this happens. If everything works correctly the clutch will engage pretty early while letting out on the clutch. The clutch is less than 1000 miles old. Just can't figure out whats going on. :shrug:

Throw out bearing catching? how crusty was the imput shaft for the tranny?
There was no rust. A sleeve was put on the shaft with a ShoNut Ceramic TOB. New clutch fork bushings were installed too. The bushings were from ShoSource. The small bushing fit in the case just fine while the larger one was sanded down a bit by Tim(Toolman) to make it fit.

Take the clutch cable off the arm that goes into the transmission, out in the engine compartment. Have someone pump the pedal with their hands inside the car while you pull on the end of the cable in the engine compartment. That will let you know what your cable is doing.
Take the hood off and have someone operate the clutch inside the car while you are outside watching that little lever, and be prepared to trott alongside your car to see all the action of the lever while the car moves forward in first gear.
I have never seen a bad cable, so prepare yourself for the second event.

Was the sleeve loctited on the snout for the TOB? Sounds like the sleeve is loose and is binding the TOB.
That could be what the problem is. I don't remember putting loctite on it. What I do remember is that it was very hard to get on. The sleeve had two tabs on it that I thought would keep the sleeve on.

Yes, those tabs would lead one to believe that they dig into the quill and secure the sleeve. The old one came off even with those tabs? If so, then the quill may have rotated around and the new tabs are sliding in the grooves made when removing the old sleeve. I won't say that your issue, but I'd consider it likely that it's TOB related.

if you put new clutch fork bushings in and they where a tight fit the clutch fork will move slowly....when i did mine i put a spring to help pull the clutch back when disengadged....give time for the clutch fork bushings to wear in.

this above will tell wether the clutch fork bushings are tight
