There is a vacuum canister on each side of the intake, hooked to a rod. The way they are supposed to work: The vacuum canisters are spring loaded to hold the secondaries open when the engine is not running. Within about 1 second of the engine starting, vacuum builds and the canisters close the secondaries. At about 4000 RPM the computer sends a signal to the solenoid and the vacuum is released, allowing the canisters to release, which opens the secondaries. If you see something on each side of the intake move when the engine is started, the canisters are working properly. The solenoid has been know to fail, causes the secondaries to stay open all the time.
