The exact same thing happened when they shipped my hood. They sent a rep out to take pictures. He said it looked like they had thrown the box.We contacted the ups store where it was shipped from a week later, & UPS denied the claim. They said it wasn't packaged properly. It had a excellent packaging job done by the person I bought the hood from.We tried fighting it ,but they still denied the claim. If you get them to cover the damage let me know,Then I will fight it.Good luck!!!!

Here's a few tips when dealing with the UPS adjuster.

The #1 tip I can give to you is to keep the packaging the hood was sent in. That includes the outer box and any inner materials that were put in between the hood and outer packaging to keep the hood safe.

According to UPS, if the packaging does not extend at least 2 inches beyond all sides of the package then it's insufficient packaging. The inner packing materials will be needed also because it doesn't matter how far the package extends if inner packing materials are sufficient to protect the item.

When they come, be prepared to show them the damage to the packaging and that the damage to the outer packaging is a direct result of damage done to the hood. (For instance, a tear in the top flat side of the boxing that would match up to damage done to the hood underneath.)

If they approve your claim they're going to ask you how much the item is worth new retail. It will not matter to them that it is obsolete and hard to come by. Find out what a new hood would have cost you brand new from Ford Motor Company. Go to a dealer to get this info if you can. Get the information IN WRITING and have the person who gives it to you date and sign it.

Do get several estimates for repair. Tell the shop to go with high estimates. *wink wink* If they approve the claim they will give you the lesser of the two amounts (new versus repair) up to the amount that it was insured for. So if the hood was insured for $800 and a new one would cost $700 and a repair cost of $600 then they'll opt to pay $600 for the repair. That is IF they approve the claim.

Watch what you say to the adjuster. Don't let him fast talk you or double talk you. Don't offer any info that he/she doesn't ask for.

Be polite! I don't care how mad you are, the better you treat this person the more likely it will be that you'll get satisfaction. Do let them know that you're angry because this item was damaged, but don't take the anger out on them.

They will always deny all first claims :boink: . It took me 6 freeken months to get a claim through and four different claims reps after they rammed a fork lift into a $1800.00 irreplacable keyboard .. I couldn`t believe they actualy delivered it to the peoples door in the condition it was in .
They let me keep the keyboard though .

Just don't ship UPS it is as simple as that.

I got burned on a claim for a $1500 scanner I sold on ebay that arrived broken. Even though I packed it with 3-4 in of peanuts tighly around it. The buyer went ******* becaus eit didn't work, I had insured it, but because he didn't keep the packaging it was denied.

He came back after me for it, but I was luckily able to get Paypal to take my side, as it was his fault for throwing away the packing materials.

Never again will I ship anything of value via UPS, fedex, is great for claims, broken glass, broken electronics, and lost packages they make you wait 2 weeks then boom they give you a check. I haven't ever had a complaint with Fedex.

UPS shipments were one of my responsibilities when I worked my prior job. I had the pleasure (NOT) of taking care of insurance claims as well from time to time and I never got denied once. It did usually take a week or so to get the claim approved though.

Fed-Ex is also plagued by damaged packages. We bought a color laser printer, back in those days it cost in excess of $6000 (it was a huge HP color laser) and it took 3 tries for Fed-Ex to get it to us non-broken. I think the 3rd time around they probably learned to carry it with extra caution. That or threatened to fire the next employee who broke a $6k plus printer.

Fed ex is the worst shipping company period. They have lost 2 of my packages including just this month...a 92 lb transmission strapped to a pallet. UPS is normally pretty good but with something the size of a hood...I guess you should have had it truck freight because the cost probably would have been the same.

RPS, Fed Ex and OOPS, I mean ups are the worst, I used to work with ex ups people, on chick said they used to throw boxes off the top most conveyer for fun, or play football with the boxes. I live about 10miles away from a major UPS center, I interviewed there way back in high school, the building is massive, and the uppermost conveyer is waaaaay up there about three stories up inside a huge hanger type building, I had RPS mess up a mustang door, it was crated, they somehow shattered the window, and then proceeded to loose the door altogether, they denied my claim saying the door was not properly boxed, well, no it wasn't boxed it was crated!!!! I appealed and to no avail. Fed Ex destroyed a flatscreen 7" TV for the sho, again denying it sayig it was improperly boxed. I don't know if you need to go somewhere and have it authorized so they CANNOT deny your claim or what. best of luck to you man:salute:
