Well i'm 1300 miles away from home and my compressor is burnt out, it makes alot of noise and the ac doesn't blow cold anymore. I need to unplug the compressor clutch i guess so that i can still use the defroster and such. I'm wondering if anyone knows if running with that plug on the compressor off is a bad thing, and if thats the right thing to do. Its not like i can take anything off or replace it now, i still have to drive 1300 miles home. Thanks for any input.

just unplug it, there are no problems running with it disconnected, I know my compressor is on the fritz as well, making a nice growing/whining noise above 3000 rpms

that plug that's right below the alternator is the power for the compressor clutch. If you unplug it, then... the clutch won't engage. that's it. If the clutch doesn't engage, the compressor doesn't spin. Problem solved!

Also, if you disconnect the A/C clutch cycling switch (on top of the dryer/accumulator), that will also disable the clutch (zomg, pressure is 0! can't turn the clutch on!).

yes if you just unplug it your ac pully will act like an idler, none of the internals will move. unless the pully bearing is bad and is making the noise it should be a temp fix to get you home.
