Hello all. I am interested in running with a shosource underdrive pulley on my 3.2 build with 3.0 acc. I have had people tell me that my crankshaft can snap without a dampener, or the snout can break off. The guys that told me this know what they are talking about in general. I was wondering if you guys had anything to add? Has anyone ever had this happen to their sho?

Broken snout?! That's crazy.

I've had the SS UDP on my '95 for a couple years now, so far so good.

What's that from? I assume a SHO, but FI, stroked?

FWIW, I'm also running the SHOsource pulley...no idea if it makes a difference, but I'll let you know if my crank snaps in half.

I had a FPS UDP on my ATX for over 50K with no issues and that car was turbo turning over 8K at times. Never had a crank issue with that car. I think I sold the car with 242K on it.

The only time a UDP is NOT recomended is in a supercharged application, or in tandem with a set of the SHO SHOP 3 piece kits.
Stick one on and your accessories will thank you for it!

What is that from? Not a pulley right? And thanks for the input guys, I want to protect my accessories as much as I can for those 7k shifts :3gears:

I have the solid aluminum SS under drive crank along with the under drive power steering pulley and water pump pulley. I left the Alt. pulley stock so I would still get a good charge to my battery. Been running this setup since just before the Charlotte convention with no issues,

I've been running this same setup for 10 years and no problems. In hot weather while idling in traffic, coolant temps come up a bit more due to the H20 pump putting out less, but it always cools once moving.

Judging from where it broke im guessing its like the few others that broke the crank due to being cut.. cut the hardened layer off.. its right at the radius filet

Like a chain being only as strong as its weakest link. . When you remove hardening and undercut the radius due to bad rod bearing the radius is the weak point as all the stress gets put right at the tight radius .. sorta like taking a saw blade with the circle cutout between the teeth and making it a sharp 90 or 45 or whatever. . Once the tooth of the blade hits a tough spot it would likely shatter the blade

Just an SC, bottom end was stock IIRC. Went to a 3.2 after that. The car made it to a few conventions before disappearing.

I believe that is the same car that split the tranny case in half at the Memphis convention.
