We tried this experiment last month at the Peoria camweld and the results were amazing. How many people on this forum can open their trunk with the Key??
No, I'm not gonna sue Ford over this one. It was just a complete surprise. I thought I was the only one. Try it. eek!

Come to think of it...I have never opened my trunk with my key. Without the key there are still 3 other ways to open it. I either use the remote, or if my key is not with me, I open the door and hit the trunk button, or i use the combination on the keypad. I have never actually had to use the key to open the trunk.

Well, you certainly got me curious, so I just went out and tried, and sure enough, it does not open with the key, but considering the car is 5 years old and I do not think I have ever tried to actually use the key before, it could easily be that the lock is just frozen. Not many turning parts still will turn after that long a period of never having been moved or lubricated. I do on occasion open the driver door with the key, but I also lub it once or twice a year. Same for the fromt passenger door. Bt I do not remember if I have ever done anything with the trunk lock.

I'm batting .500

My 36,000 mile garage queen key works fine.

My 122,000 with spun cam and a SLO trunklid doesn't.

Been monitoring this question After the first round of this issue on V8SHO.com. Seems to be about 50/50 on the cars I've seen. I managed to get one to work again out of desperation on the Supercharged 97. I moved the battery to the trunk and the battery went dead on me. No power to trunk release and key won't open trunk.HUH. Guess I better make the F%&@#$G trunk key work again!

And the plan when the battery fails would be???Not that there is anything all that important located in our trunks, I agree with Steve, it's probably simply lack of use. Mine is a 97 with Factory trunk - and no after a can of SHO **** (WD40) still won't work - ARGHGHHHH

Just went out and tried mine again after the Liquid Wrench treatment the other day. No go for me either. So it is totally toasted from lack of use or it never worked in the first place, but I do not know which.

Might work for some, but honestly, Have you seen the SIZE of some of our fellow SHO owners? I can see the headlines now....
"Obese car owners die from heat exhaustion after getting stuck climbing into trunk from backseat. What were all these people trying to do this for?"

Might be a better angle to sue Ford from, More life threatening than Camfailures. LOL.

Mine doesn't work. On my brother's T-bird I recently had to spray some WD40 into the door locks and force the key in brutally. I might try this on my '97 if I get a valet key made. Don't want to break the chipped ones.

My car came with two remotes and two keys. Both keys have the chip, they both fit the door and ignition and both will start the car. These keys have an "S" stamped on them, what does this mean. Also, they both go into the trunk lock but alas, the lock doesn't turn.
