98 SHO, trunk and door keys all work, never use, use remote almost 99.99% of time. without looking I believe the locks are one of those service items you **** once or twice a year. pull out you keys, every other key on your ring is a potential scratch waiting to happen, Murphy's Law. better off to use the remote. 2cents worth

I'm batting .500

My 36,000 mile garage queen key works fine.

My 122,000 with spun cam and a SLO trunklid doesn't.

Been monitoring this question After the first round of this issue on V8SHO.com. Seems to be about 50/50 on the cars I've seen. I managed to get one to work again out of desperation on the Supercharged 97. I moved the battery to the trunk and the battery went dead on me. No power to trunk release and key won't open trunk.HUH. Guess I better make the F%&@#$G trunk key work again!
Our 99 the trunk key did not work, but after I pulled the lock out of the trunk and beat it around for a couple of hours it started working. One of the wafers must have been in need of some discipline.

The dead 96 I bought (which now lives) I had to check the trunk key first because the trailer we put her on had sides and you couldn't open the doors, and it had a dead battery. So you had to slide in through the trunk to get inside and take it out of park... fun fun..

Both of ours work now we were 0 for one until I bought #2

Without the key there are still 3 other ways to open it. I either use the remote, or if my key is not with me, I open the door and hit the trunk button
Is the trunk button inside the car electric also? Makes me appreciate my cable release more and more if it is.

Yeah, it is electric. It is just a button that you push and the trunklid pops up. By cable do you mean like the hood release?

My 97 with the original trunk lid works with the key, and it's a non-oem key also, it says curtis on it. How much are the oem keys from ford?? I'm sure there not cheap cause they have the comp. chip in them, right??
