Transmission Line Connector - LEAK!

I noticied I was leaking tranny fluid the other day. Leak got progressively worse. I found that it was leaking from the transmission line connector that connects from the tranny to the oil line that goes to the cooler. I took it apart, figured it was the retaining clip at the end of it. Went to ford and bought at new one ($18.60!). Just installed it. I started it up and boom it is gushing now. A lot worse. I don't understand what I did wrong. I screwed it in tight and its not leaking there. It is the other side where the oil line slides into the clip. It was nice and tight and the retaining clip was holding it in well.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions? It is starting to **** me off.

The part number of the fitting you should have got should be F7DZ*7D273*AA Conn asy (List $16.10/ea). Unless your stealer is marking up over list price, you might have gotten the wrong fitting. While it looks right in the pict, that doesn't mean it was the right P/N, so double-check the P/N of the part you got.

FWIW, I'd recommend replacing both fittings, and also inspect the cooler lines -- they tend to rot out. Here are the P/N's for those in case you do end up needing them:

F7DZ*7A030*BA Cooler tube asy (List $102.05)
F6DZ*7A031*DA Cooler tube asy (List $22.93)

BTW, it helps to have the OTC tool for disconnecting the cooler lines from the fittings, otherwise it's really easy to damage the fitting and cause leaks. I don't have that P/N handy.

Well I got the right connector, but what I'm wondering are these only good for one use? What bugs me is supposedly these lines were replaced 10 months ago. I definately don't want to replace them both again. The top line (coming out of tran oil pan) is the one that is causing the problem. Which part # is this line? Fluid comes right out of the retainer clip. I looked at the line and it doesnt look that bad. I see no aparent holes.

Get a 1/4" MNPT x 1/2" FNPT adapter and a 1/2" MNPT x 3/8" hose barb. Two hose clamps and a piece of 3/8" hose to eliminate it.

ShoZ123, Thanks for the info. I just went to a few part stores and couldn't find those fittings. Are those uncommon ones? Pepboys had the largest selection of fittings but had several that were out (cept I dont know which ones). Couldn't find anything in Autozone and Lappens barely had any as well. Where's a good place to get them?

Those are pipe fittings. Most hardware stores should have them.

We generally end up replacing both lines and fittings on every tranny swap we do, as up here the salt rots the **** out of them. The 7A030 is the top line (at the tranny), and the 7A031 is the lower.
