You got the ptu changed also correct? Steel wheels? You have a used police interceptor?
No, it's a SHO, wheels were something I bought for winter setup, tires get more expensive as wheel size gets bigger. I haven't changed the PTU or fluid just yet. Can't find anyone to do it and I don't have tools to do it myself.

That's terrible across the board. It's one thing to throw a sensor or two at an issue but big time parts like that without testing.. oh boy. I was hoping John had some more insights on what to look at.
Keep posting back. Alot of issues have to be catalogued as we are seeing newer and different kinds of failures. This can help the next person 3 years from now.

So I got my car back today. They replaced the Main Control and it was like 1700 but good thing I had a coupon so it was 1400 lol but anyways, when they called the guy told me the tech didn't feel any difference - apparently he was still feeling a harsh shift between 2 and 3rd gear but that honestly was hardly the issue. I was terrified, but the service write up guy said he drove it and it felt fine to him. So I went, paid and drove away AND it fixed it. I mean it's entirely more responsive - where as before I would have to push down on the gas pedal wayyy to much for the car to start accelerating, - it is downshifting properly and just mannnn I am so happy. Although I thought the quoted price was 700 not 1700, I'm just entirely happy it works perfectly now. It's just weird that no codes were coming up but hey, I'm not complaining.

The thing is though, I can't say for certain that him replacing the main control is what fixed it because prior to that he changed the fluid again and probably reprogrammed the adaptive transmission. It's doubtful that fixed it but if the tech only thought the issue was a harsh shift between 2 and 3rd, I feel as though he just wasn't in tune with the car because it drove honestly like crap and now its back to normal.

Either way, it is fixed and now I can focus on the rest of the car. lol

Glad to hear. It usually doesn't end like this with a happy ending. In this case it seems to have.

The dealership *may* have reprogrammed the pcm.

Clearing the transmission adaptive learn is like clearing keep Alive memory. It's just the learned values over time. The driver can afect these too. The fluid change and adaptive probably didnt fix anything, but the main control very well could have.

The tech did have to reprogram the new main control valve body to the p.c.m.

On a side note that I forgot to mention. On the 6F55 the solenoids cannot be replaced individually. They come as all one unit.

AHHHH right. Especially since literally the technician who did the replacement, said that he still felt a problem. I have no idea what he is talking about lol because it feels amazing again. I'm very happy.

Well if it wasn't the adaptive learn and fluid change then it would be the main control that fixed it lol.

Let's hope this keeps you out of the shop for a long while. But it's a SHO, so the white knuckling on the bank account never ends.
Good Luck!! Get a mask.

Update - feels like the issue is coming back. Started feeling laggy acceleration yesterday. Just took it for a drive again at all speeds to make sure i'm not just paranoid and it is for sure not accelerating as it should. I know for a fact though last week when I got it back, that there was a major difference. I've attached screen shots of where someone talks about a very very similar issue with their Taurus, not the SHO. I will go absolutely nuts if I can't figure this out, I drive far too much.

I am sorry to be hearing this. Honestly I would start preparing for the worst. The 6F55 isn't the greatest transmission in the world...esp in the SHO. This is what happens when two large auto manufacturers collaborate on a transmission that is used across an array of platforms. Ford really dropped the ball when they decided to use this trans with this set up.

Also the SHO does not use a MAF sensor. We have MAP sensors.

It just sucks, because the car only had 44k miles on it when i got it literally a year and 2 days ago, and now i have just a little over 60k. It's almost as if the more work and maintenance i've put into it, the worst it's driven lol. What a blast.

Only 60k? No warranty I assume? People reading this please consider an extended Ford warranty for at least powertrain for as long as you can get in mileage and months.

I can't add anything over what John posted on page 2. I'm hoping it is something small and ridiculous that we missed and not a big high dollar piece.

My transmission in my SHO blew up without any warning signs at 69K. It cost me $4800 to replace and I am still very gun shy with the new trans, even with two years remaining on the warranty.

I purchased a 12k/12 month extended warranty but I already put 20k miles on it so, yeah. Thats all they offered

I'm hoping so, also.

I was shopping for one for my '14 F-150 before I hit 100k. I think I was eligible for 36k or so at the time. You have to shop the discount Ford sellers online. I tried to pricematch at the local dealer and they laughed me out the door and said that was below their cost. Alot of people buy from the Ford discount volume sellers. With your mileage I wonder what the term an dcost would be? That's low miles still.

OH I want to add that I have an occasional smell coming from my vents. I noticed it before but it stopped happening and now that my cars acting up again, I've smelt it twice now today. Working on cleaning the mass flow sensor amd throttle body and for good measures ordered new spark plugs. Trying everything before replacing trans

What kind of smell?

There are 2 map sensors if you want to spray them with electric parts cleaner

I had my boyfriend clean both sensors last night. The smell is like a gear oil smell almost - at least that is what he said he would consider it. It isn't a very strong smell and it isn't consistent. Yesterday it came and went twice. The car was warmed up both times. I just wish a fricken light or code would happen.

I just also find it so strange that after the main control was changed, it felt fine for like 2 days. Way better. Then slowly started to accelerate laggy and just feels like such a lack of power. I can hear my turbos but I swear sometimes it feels they aren't kicking in.

I know i've asked before but I noticed my trans filter wasn't changed, could that be any contributing factor ?

You have to pull the whole trans to change the filter. Another boneheaded thing done by both GM and Ford.

UPDATE. My transmission is entirely fine. I just took it to a local shop instead of the dealership and its a turbo problem. The guy figured it when he used his scan tool while test driving it, I knew there was such a lack of power. He took out the air intake sensor or whatever it is called and it had oil on it - I drop it off tomorrow for a better diagnostic. It all makes sense now.

Yes. yes. The new expesive diagnostic computer tools are essential for the really modern stuff. It has data from everywhere if the tech knows how to follow it. It could take a backyard wrencher like me forever to figure it out. Hopefully this is finally the answer.
