Tech,

What is your build date? Ford had a stop ship on all Ecoboost Flex and MKT late last year for defective PTUs, though some had slipped by before they were aware of the problem.

I don't have it back yet but it should be ready today. I will report back when I have it. I knew from the Taurus Forum that someone linked me too that it talked about the deliveries being held up on the Ecoboost Flex for bad PTO's. I also have the Customer Relations lady looking into whether I have an updated PTO over the one it shipped with. I know the Inspection sticker was March 2010 but that might not mean anything. I purchased it 6 Aug 2010.

Edit: According to the Customer Relations lady, my build date is Dec 2009. Is this in line with the Bad batch of PTO dates?

So I guess mine had a bad PTO that got past the door at the Oakwood final assembly plant. Does anyone know what the problem with the original PTO was? I assume that all replacement PTO's are new and improved? How long should I wait before I throw a tune in and run mid 13's? I got it back after work today and it's back to the awesome manners I was impressed by the day I bought it.

If you want to keep the warranty, I would hold off on a tune. I'm not sure all the bugs are worked out of this platform yet. If that's not a big concern then turn it up!

It's funny how Ford's take is on this vehicle and aftermarket Tunes. My 2005 Mustang was no problem considering Ford sold Drag Packs themselves with a custom tuner in the kit. The dealer even gave me my under drive pullies back in the trunk when I had to have an engine replaced at 9400 miles due to an oiling issue with the adjustable cam timing. They told me to make sure I got them my stock pully so they could put it back on the bad engine before sending it back to Ford.

That's a dealer working with you instead of against you. You never know how that might turn out. The SHO is both new motor and drivetrain platforms and might be under the microscope more than higher volume Mustangs. Especially if Ford wants to push both across model lines and is looking to work the kinks out. Just random thoughts. Might not be an issue at all, but I'm paranoid like that.

You would think they might like a bit of "On the Road" (STRIP) help from some loyal customers!

You can only test them so far on a dyno or at their facilities. After all, a customer or a tuner is the only one insane enough to add 30 deg of extra timing with 5 lbs extra boost!

I can see where blatant disregard for common since when tuning one of these combo's could cause Ford concern but I hope we have moved away from 14.1 Air Fuel Ratio's and 28 degrees of timing screw ups when making tunes for this platform. I'm sure there are some good safe tunes that will make this platform fun and provide a good margin of safety. I would just like to run mid 13's in a flying Brick and leave in an easy chair with the AC on. :)

Oh yea. 1-st time today, was stopped at a stop sign for about 3 seconds, lifted off of brake, gave it some accelerator, felt like tranny slip for about a second or so then a thunk into gear. I would consider this a minor issue UNLESS, it gets worse or develops into a problem like is being discussed on this thread. Just turned over 1k miles.

David I am having the same problem. Please post whatever your sevice techs discovered about this or what you've had done to resolve the issue. I am looking for help for this myself. Nothing wrong has been found by two service departments. Ford was no help but they documented it. Not a fun ride with this transmission quirkyness.

Okay guys! There is a TSB out for this issue. The second time it happened to me I got a vehicle health report via sync. Errors found helped them determine what to do. BTW, none of the errors are captured, so after a restart they clear out. So, if you have sync, and most should, run the report before you restart the car. Just pull off the road, run the report, and let sync send it.

TSB 10174 should clear up this issue. Haven't had the chance to ereally road test it on a long run, but it seems to be okay.

Well I'm back, having trans issue once again. The dealer did change my Trans Range Sensor back in September. Worked for awhile but back to slipping on start again. Going to contact dealer this week. If Ford doesn't make this right this sho WILL be the last Ford I will ever purchase period, and I have purchased from Ford 6 trucks and 4 cars / suvs in the pass 15 years. Three alone last year...........
