my car is taken apart its almost cured but it'll take about a week for me to finish..sry i forgot to take pics but the car is in devine and i wasnt gonna go all the way home to get my cam...well..as i was going deeper and deeper i found more and more.. first off, as i took the intake manifold off and apart it was NASTY! and it smelled like gas...the rings that go around the spark plugs were half as thin as they should be so there was oil everywhere...when i took my tensioner off it fell apart in my hands...it only had like 2 BB"s in the bering, i found where the others were it wast real pretty...my timing belt busted..ideler pull is jacked up and my water pump was about to go bad, it needs just about every gasket under the hood...the guy thats helping me told me if i had driven it about a week more i wouldve destroyed the engine..i wish i couldve taken pics of this thing..it wouldve shocked ya...these parts looked all factory as if nothings ever been changed since the car was bought NEW!..if this lil project may cost me a pretty penny but its sure as **** gots me all exsiter'd! it was fun taking it apart...

well heres a list of the stuff i need..somthing tells me im gonna have to wait for all of it..

Water pump, waterpump gasket, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, ideler pully, valve cover gasket, spark plugs/wires, sparkplug tube seals, intake gaskets,

tow to devine-$65
parts so far-$550
sound and performance when its done-priceless...

Drummaster, throw a post off to the V6SHO list (old SHOtimes and TechSHO combined) at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/v6sho, I'm more than sure somebody will have the parts you need, cheap. I have a timing belt idler pully that's brand new if you need that. Ebay is your friend when it comes to SHO parts. I know you can get a good timing belt for about $40. Also, Russ McCoy has a really good site for gaskets and wires and stuff, I've done business with him many times with nothing but good results. His site is http://home.earthlink.net/~rcm_automotive. Now is a good time to learn how to do your own maintenance... you laugh, but I'm serious. Most mechanics are either too scared to work on SHOs or will charge exorbitant rates, especially for engine work. Of course, if you already do your own work, then never mind :) .

Sorry to hear your SHO was in such bad shape, how much mileage does it have on it? Most SHOs will last 200K miles with minor maintenance... as long as that maintenance is performed. Honestly, though, spark plug tube seals, valve cover gaskets, water pump, wires... those all go bad on the SHO ALL THE TIME. I've changed all of those, and changing the timing belt is never a bad idea. It won't hurt the engine if it snaps, but it's still a %*)#$ to get to on the side of the road lol.

I know it's a pain in the a$$ at first, I've wanted to torch my SHO before once or twice, but the end result is sooooooooooooooooooo worth it all. I still say no car on the road today compares to it. True story!

I just bought most of the parts you are wanting from Autozone (all parts for front 60K) for just a tad over $200. For example, the timing belt is only about $22.

You can save a few bucks on ebay, and if you can find a few guys like hawkeye18 who have stuff laying around. Just depends on how long you want to wait for parts.

I contacted AZ, Pep Boys, O'Reilys, and NAPA. None of them had anything except the accessory belts in stock. So I ordered from Autozone on Saturday, and everything was there on Wednesday. Not too bad.

Don't know what part of Texas you are in, but most cities have all the places I mentioned. If you are anywhere near Fort Worth, there are several of us here who would be happy to help you any way we can.

Good Luck.

You'll want to go to the WTB (want to buy) section of the forum. Their are several stickies on the top of the section with vendors that have a ton of parts cars and they will be able to get you that pulley no problem. You will also want to check out the 'parts cars' section for that pulley and their is also a classifieds right now for parts from NE sho specialists that i'm sure will have that pulley. The parts are out there you just need to be a bit more proactive.

Also, you might want to invest in some AutoRX the internals of that motor are nasty!

I'd put rod bearing as a top priority.

I also just noticed that you still have the serpentine tensioner on the motor...why?

Also, I see oil still left in your plug wells....I hope you drained the majority of it before you pulled the plugs so that the oil/dirt/grit...and what not didn't drain into the combustion chamber.

Good Lord, that poor motor! That's one of the most discolored heads I've seen on a SHO.

Well, for one thing, but looking at those pictures that engine has had a long hard life. I'd be putting rod bearings at the top of your list. How many miles are on it?

i dont remember where i seen pictures of crank cancer but search the forums i know its there somewhere with pictures or a link to pictures on crank cancer. from what i can see it dont look like crank cancer but i cant tell its hard to see the crank key on these pictures.
my heads on the 3.0 donor car i had were bad looking but they werent that dirty. looks like your gonna have to clean them manually with some good cleaner.
you could take the heads off and apart all the way and soak them in paint thinner from what ive heard, i dont wanna recommend it but ive heard of it being done and let it sit over night to clean all the crud off.
but remember you would need new head gaskets A MUST!
i dont know if by chance some engine clean running it threw would work or not. after you do get them clean use good oil on this engine olny to help keep the engine clean as can be.
you maybe could use some carb cleaner and a brush and work away trying to clean the heads and all up.
the intake id recommend letting them soak inside with something to clean and brush em clean.
dont use a toothbrush since they melt in carb cleaner and paint thinner etc.
good luck cleaning them.
remember harder you work the better you will rest the engine will stay for a long life.
there is people with sho's that got over 300k miles on them and they run like the day they came outta the factory with keeping up on matinence.
ok i made this quick post long so ill end it here for others to chime in

I would suggest buying AutoRX and running that to clean out the motor. Many people here have had good luck with it - works very well.
