They drive me nuts! I have one on my SHO thats squeaking, as well as a few other cars in the family. Is there anything you guys rewcommend using to help avoid this? A special lubricant or something? When I splash water on the pullies the squeaking stops for a minute or two, but then starts back up again. Any info? Thanks.

If water stops the squeaking, then it's not the pullies, it's the belts. It's just glazing of the belts. Go get a can of belt dressing from a reputable Auto parts house. Spray it where the belt meets the pulley and you won't have any more squeaking.

Bad pulleys make a whining sound. And they are not impossible to find. FordPartsNetwork has them. I just ordered and replaced both of mine last year. Expensive, yes. Extinct, no.

the only reason belt dressing would make it worse is if the pulley was slipping slightly in the first place and the dressing worsened the slipping. and here's a trick that i don't condone but does work. take the pulley out, use a needle grease injector and try to get it between the seal where the bearings are at. usually it works.

Yes, candle wax. If it works what do you do then....SMILE. If bearings are going out check the tensioners and/or belt tension to be correct.

You do not understand what belt dressing does. It is not going to make it slip more. It does the exact opposite.

BTW, another "old school" method to stop squeeky belts is to use rubber contact cement instead of belt dressing.

i tried wheel bearing grease just to try different things. it worked for a little while but not long. both my taurus's do it so im suspecting cheap belts maybe...i think i might try the candle wax btw, wouldnt rubber contact cement make the belt deteriorate due to the chemicals?

The bearing is Ford and we can't buy it unless we find a contact in Japan to smuggle us some NSK Ford Proprietry bearings. I've pressed 2 out and ran them through every bearing house in Detroit and can't come close with anything on the shelf.... But I'm getting closer.
