It starts with no problems cold. Most of the time, after I've run it for a little, come back to restart, I have to give it full throttle to start it. I don't get a CEL. I thought maybe dirty MAF sensor so I dumped a can of electronics cleaner on it and got no change. It runs fine after I get it started. I've done the upper and lower 60K's about 3K ago. I'm not sure what's going on here.

Check your fuel pressure at the fuel rails. If you have to "floor" the throttle to get it to start, it sounds like you have a leaky injectors. The fuel pressure test should point you in the right direction.:thumb:

My 91 has the same issue. I turn the key and listen to the fuel pump. A higher whine tells me there is not enough pressure on the initial prime it sends. I turn the key a second time without starting the car and you can hear the fuel pump tone drop lower. Thats when I crank the starter and she starts right up. Let the fuel pump do the work like it should and turn the key twice without turning it to engage the starter. I dont want to take the time to put in a new check valve.

Now its really not running.

My fuel pump is not priming and I just had it towed home. I looked for fuses and relays and didn't find any. Looks like I'll be putting a new one in this weekend. Any advice? How hard is it to do? Luckily, I happen to have a spare fuel pump in my garage. It doesn't look to hard but I don't know how hard it is to get to.

The check valve is built into the pump
