Hey Guys and Gals,

Has anyone had problems with their speedometer jumping all over the place.
(When cruising at a constant speed.)
Mine is off by 5 to 20 mph at times and will read aprox. 10mph when stopped.
When I accelerate from a stop it first moves down to 0mph and then starts to climb.
At first I thought my clutch was slipping when cruising, but that would not explain the reading when stopped and the clutch seems to be working just fine.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

usually a speedo prob on a mtx sho is the speedo cable. found in two parts, it comes from the tranny and into the firewall. i believe it is grey. and it is thick.

A worn cable will cause the needle to waver. Sticking bearings on the needle's shaft will cause the needle to stick or hang. The fixes: replace the worn cable and lubricate the dry bearings with a light machine oil. You situation sounds more like the speedo needle's bearings need some lubrication.

i also had this problem, but i also had an annoying squeak, what i did was take the cluster out, first remove the speedo cable from the transaxle by removing the clip, then unclip the speedo cable from the rear of the cluster. then just pull the gold speedo cable out from the housing and **** it with multi purpose grease then just put it back in the housing and clip it back to the cluster and re connect to the tranny. this fixed me up great, just remeber not to kink the cable while reinstalling the cluster and remeber to plug all the electrical connectors back into the cluster, the first time i did this i forgot one of the plugs and got everything back together and my gas gauge didnt work, anyways good luck
