Sony CDX-MP40 or JVC KD-S890

Would like to replace the stock head unit on my 92' w/ JBL. Yahoo Shopping has both these units for about $150 with remote. Sony or JVC?

I would go JVC my brother has a JVC head unit and it has been very good. Sony is not very good as I have had problems with their stuff before as well as others.

The lower priced Sony HUs have notorious skipping problems. JVC is okay, but is $150 all you're willing to spend? I have had good luck with them, but am much happier with the $270 I shelled out for my Alpine CDA-7892.

What are your plans for future system upgrades?

I have a JVC, its the Kameleon face plate one and I like it, but it has broken a couple times. Both times I took it back to circuit city and they fixed it under warranty. The JVC has two pre-outs which is nice if your thinking of upgrading in the future, but the Sony has a little more power and plays m3s. The sony also has some better EQ features. I don't know if I trust the sony ratings and when I had a sony amp it was really sensitive and got ehot easily. I've heard that any sony other than mobile ES is crap and I stay away from it, but on paper the sony looks a little better if all your going for is a cd player. E-mail me if you want to know anything else, I've installed a ton of stuff and know some friends with different brands of decks. For the money your talking about though pioneer makes a good deck around that range.

dun get either go with pioneer, kenwood, or alpine those are the top three retail HU on the market right now you will not be disapointed in these and you can get older wersion on wholesale from ebay
