Got a letter from Ford saying it’s time for a maps update, and proceed to find out they want $150 to send me a usb lol. Thought there had to be a better way. So sure enough I’ve upgraded from Sync 3.0 to Sync 3.4 that comes with latest maps and also is much snappier than 3.0 was. Looks are debatable though, I wouldn’t say it’s better or worse looking than 3.0 just different.

Rear passenger hub/bearing 2....me 0. Going for round 3.....RIP slide hammer from OReillys! On my second slide hammer. If no budging after another painful 20 min of hammer ******* metal....I'll try the pipe wrench and sledge hammer pro technique. View attachment 14753

Good luck. I tried everything short of the hub buster. Ended up pulling the whole hub assembly off and beating it out with a hammer. Reassembly is not fun.

Believe it or not i tried that. Found that video in my frustration. Was able to get a small gap all around. So much build up inbetween the bearing and hub didnt allow it to come out. I really should of took pictures. Was quite comical in the sense of how frustrated it made me. Car was on stands for 5 days. Lol.

I really should of took pictures. Was quite comical in the sense of how frustrated it made me. Car was on stands for 5 days. Lol.

Been there with suspension work on my first '90 SHO. rust and corrosion all under that thing. Chisels, hammers and torches on the regular. plus eyefulls of rust

I've only seen one video where the guy tried everything and then removed the knuckle and pressed it out. What a pain in the ass. Today I decided I did not to want to bother fighting with it. Installed the Phenolic Spacer instead. All done just needs new radiator fluid. I didn't get fancy and paint it, I did paint the coolant to turbo necks bc they were the only areas showing corrosion. Plus the real secret to 11's....the Econoaid Throttle body booster hahaha! For the chance it might do Something I've left it in the car for a few years now lol. Valves looked kind of ok. Basically horrible lighting to try to take a pic...tried like 6 times and could never get a good pic. Direct port meth is in my future plans. Oh well, something that went right for once. Then it's back to the wheel bearing. My new nitrous nozzle assembly showed up today. So once the wheel bearing gets sorted, it's front clip off install the new nozzle/jet pre IC with the smallest jet I have which is a 15 shot, then I'll double dip pre TB with another 25 or 35 shot. Maybe a 50 shot........maybe a 75 shot lol. HP in a sandwich bag baby...I'll bring all my jets.

Some well placed home run effort hits with a 5 to 8lb sledge at the back of the bearing with the knuckle WELL supported WILL free them. These I took to work to press out, but I've done them with a BFH as well. Do not hammer or chisel around the bearing ******. It won't work. It'll just deform the aluminum. A buddy of mine tried that method b4 asking me for help. He ended up having to get his customer to buy a new hub.

Clean the inside surface corrosion afterwards and antiseize before installing the new hub bearing.

This will definitely be attempted...the slide hammer isnt adequate.

Some well placed home run effort hits with a 5 to 8lb sledge at the back of the bearing with the knuckle WELL supported WILL free them. I think I'll try this before using bolts...mostly bc it has ****** me off and I will enjoy a dozen homerun sledge hammer hits....then if that doesn't work I'll try the bolts....and if I end up removing the knuckle....then I just wasted a bunch of time and effort since I could have taken the knuckle off on day 1.

True. So even though the car has missed the past 3 1/2 winters the corrosion had begun from past owners, albeit its pretty decent really. But ever since I first looked at the car there has been a massive discrepancy in corrosion to the passenger rear than any other corner of the car. I always pictured the car parked in a snow bank covered in salt on the rear passenger side....it never made any sense to me why only that corner was as bad as it was. Even the barrel of the stock wheel on that corner had rust inside it. So at appears severely frozen...I remember how this corner was marginally worse than any other. That and the rear reinforcement bar looked 100 years older than anything else near it...that was rotted really bad and had to be replaced to pass inspection a couple years ago.

Yeah. I keep forgetting that your car is about as old as my first SHO was back in the day when I tackled the suspension. My car had visible rust at the at the fender well edges and where 2 panels were bonded under the gas cap. The underbelly was a monster of rust. I loved/hated that car. Never worked as long on short projects as I did with that thing. I mean days of banging with BFH, wire wheels, angle grinders, pb blaster, Propane and MAPP torches. Blah!

I pulled mine out of the garage yesterday...

Probably going to put it on jackstands tonight and start tearing apart the front suspension. Been suspecting a blown shock for the last month or so, and yesterday it was so bouncy around town it made me nauseous lol.

Ordered new PP front struts, top mounts, and new tie rod ends to freshen up everything in the front. Going to install it all tonight/tomorrow and then take the car in for an alignment and new rear tires to match the fronts.

Will probably hack the exhaust tips off at the same time to start mocking up my quads.

Ah! Michigan! Where abouts? I've lived in Grand Haven and Muskegon. And then Farmington, Livonia, Canton, Ypsilanti, etc..... And still have very good friends in Southfield and Birmingham and Bloomfield.
