6 1/2 hours and the Gearhead IC is now installed. That and new parts. Getting there...

Next get some logs...
How many clips and odds and ends broke during the process and did you already have replacements on hand?

So I bought a bunch of items , we lost two items a condenser clip we found on the floor at the end. I had bought spares. The biggest disappointment...... The CFM replacement radiator I bought was missing the PTU cooler line - and of course we wiggled it all in to find out it was missing. Otherwise if anyone needs a brand new radiator without a PTU cooler line.... It's in mint shape going in the dump otherwise.

Last thing was a plastic chrome tab from the grill we broke - served no purpose I was glad to have new stainless worm clamps. Those squeeze ones ended up clipping at their tab and wouldn't release.

Last pita...... The aftermarket driving lights - that guys product is great just zero serviceability with no disconnect clips.

Found a jury rig push connector used on the passenger side fender. I didn't take pictures - was mostly concerned with getting it over with.

Taking off the lower radiator hose was a massive beatches, it was sealed to the lower radiator port.

Throttle body hose blew off for a second time, worm drive clamp was worn out so finally replaced with a Tbolt clamp. slightly concerned with the amount of oil around the TB, not excessive but my catch can doesnt seem to be catching as much lately, is there anything that is serviceable on the catch cans?

ha - was thinking the same thing with all the CAC hoses off during my IC => GH IC upgrade. I didnt remove my CC - but have to admit there is always a nice coating of oil in and around all the cold pipes/TB.

Spray all of your cold side connectors with aerosol hairspray then reconnect.

Check your PCV valve.

I was reminded of how much fun it was to strip window tint, especially after 13 years. The side windows weren't terrible, but the back windshield almost had me to the point of just getting it replaced. But then I remembered the car's value and just pressed on with stripping it.

The tint was peeling, started fading, and wasn't ceramic to help with the southern heat. Having tinted some windows in the past, I applied a ceramic replacement of 15% on the sides/back and 70% on the windshield. While you can tell the tint was not done by a professional, it is on; I've learned a lot and can use the limited warranty to replace the back next year.

Did you use an ammonia solution? I did that once as a teenager to replace the mirror tint on a car I had just bought and it was cheaper to remove the old tint myself than to pay the installer to do it.

Adult me would pay an installer to do it.

When I peeled the side windows, they came off with minimal effort and one whole sheet. I used the ammonia, placed the old tint back on, and parked in the sun to loosen the remaining glue. With a little razor, the remainder came off without issue.

No matter where I started, the back window came off in pieces the size of cornflake cereal (or smaller). I found a YouTube video that suggested cutting, wetting, and applying a black plastic trash bag to both sides of the window and let sit in the sun. After doing this, I got several dollar bill-sized strips and cornflakes. The biggest hassle was the defroster strips, and truth be told, I doubt they work now. lol. Oh, well...

ETA: This isn't the exact link but it was close enough that I'm posting here to save some of you other DIYers the hassle. Trash Bag Tint Removal

I just pulled the tint off a f150, they had even applied tint over the factory tinted rear and side glass. I used a heat gun and razior blades to remove it. Most of the tint came off in two or three large sheets. Used laquer thinner to remove any glue residue. One thing with the heat gun method, you have to be careful and not let it get too hot, just hot enough to soften the tint. If you are trying to remove tint from tempered glass, too much heat and you could shatter the glass.

The heat gun idea worked well on the sides but that rear windshield did not play nicely. The trash bag method was my breakthrough moment.

I use a steamer to remove side glass tint, peels off no residue and simple green and black trash bag over rear glass or windshield tint, sun or heat gun for 30-45 min, peels off with glue intact, no residue.

I researched the trash bag method a few months ago because my car has NY compliant tint and I live in FL so it's a shade darker than factory and starting to bubble. My usual tint shop wants 200 for all the windows but 250 to remove plus no guarantee my defroster will survive. It's low on the priority list but I'll definitely be removing the tint myself when the time comes

Yeah... I'm willing to elbow grease some stuff especially with the crazy labor (IMHO) shops charge.

Timing chain and water pump? Nah... someone else can do that mess.

Stripping some tint? I'll do that myself.
My thoughts exactly. I can handle most things in the driveway and being that I'm far from wealthy gotta make my own fun. As for applying the tint, price is fair and a lifetime warranty in the sunshine state is worth it so they can put it on. But internal engine work and tires are about the only thing I won't do for lack of equipment and facilities. I want a tire mounting and balancer so bad

If you do have residue on the rear glass use super fine steel wool and some sort of lubricant (dish soap and water solution or even just window cleaner) to remove the residue and it should not damage the defrosters
