Almost sounds like an exhaust leak to me. What all did they do to the car?

either I'm too lazy to let the video load all the way, or the damn thing ain't working. at any rate, what was it at the mechanic's shop for? That might help us grease monkeys figure out what's wrong with it.

Typically, a slapping noise from the back of the motor is usually a timing chain tensioner. If it's low on power, there's a possibility that somehow the tensioner went back and the cam timing chain jumped a tooth...or they pulled it off for some reason and screwed up putting it back together (i did that once..:doh).

Either way, once we find out what it was at the mechanic's for, it'll be easier for us to diagnose.

It went in for a fuel injector. I picked it up and noticed that it was mis firing. What ****** me off is that the car ran better before it went in the shop.
I was scared that it might be a piston slap. I was thinking that they didnt put the intake on right.

I also found two thing that are unpluged.

1.This one if found underneath the throttle body. Next to the back valve covers.

2.This one is found right underneath the intake hose.

Well if there is a matching plug stick it in. So often a connection is removed to get to someting and forgotten to be replaced. You would think $65/book hour(that's 20min actual time. Sounds like fraud to me) they could get it right the first time. I forgive my mechanic all the time because it is me. When I do need a lift my other mechanic only charge $20 straight time ;)

Would a vac leak cause the car to stop? I just replaced the one that goes into the front side of the intake. Then it goes down to the rad. Im thinking tha there is more leaks somewhere. Gonna try to pull the codes tomarrow.

I took it for a ride. Well I was driving around for about 10 minutes. I see that the CEL is on. I see the RPM's all the way down. So I wait. Start it like once a minute. Than I wait about 5 mins without starting it. Start it again and drive on home. I most certainly think that I would have stoped again. It is the same car that I am selling. But if it something not hard im gonna try to fix it and keep it. Some of you were saying it might be the fuel pump. When the car is stoped, and I crank it over I can hear the fuel pump prime.

Another thing is that I can still smell fuel ontop of the intake. Looks like im gonna find another mechanic. I dont kno if there was just so much fell that leaked out of the bad one that it is just evaporating.

Well there is a noticeable amount of exhaust coming from the right muffler, but this was like this when I bought the car. This slapping noise is new. I just heard it today.

I had the slapping noise in my 94 ATX a few summers back. I went nuts trying to chase it down because it carried through the entire engine and made it difficult to tell where it was actually coming from. Like you we feared it was a valve or piston taping. I finally found it what it was after taking the timing cover off. the timing belt at the very top between the 2 cam sprokets was flapping and actually hitting the plastic cover. it hadnt jumped a tooth or anything, but was loose because the self adjusting hydraulic tensioner had gone bad. removing it, I found that I was able to compress it completely by hand, which isnt good. I got a new one and put it in. the belt has remained tight and slap free since. hope this helps.

Sounds like you have a fuel injector problem still. The fuel leak on top of your motor is probably from a bad o-ring on one of your injectors... I damaged a brand new one somehow when installing my injectors to the fuel rail. Ended up with a nice little puddle of fuel on top of my engine.

The clicking noise sounds like a fuel injector firing, but I don't know why it would be THAT loud, unless maybe the bottom of one of the injectors isn't even stuck in the cylinder head now. The injectors are a tad tricky setting in place while attached to the fuel rail. If you take your time though it's no big deal. The mechanic may have rushed or not payed enough attention and left the bottom of an injector point out into the of your block. If that's the case, that's gonna be where your spilled fuel on the top of the block is coming from.

Take a flash light and try to see if all of your injectors are in place on the bottom and top. If they're good, then I'd turn your key ON (don't start the car), and ground out your fuel pump via the EEC test connector. If you smell fuel when the pump kicks on the you're probably leaking out the fuel rail somewhere, and more than likely right where the top of your injector connects to the bottom of the fuel rail. If you don't smell fuel when you gound out the pump but DO smell fuel only with the engine running the it;s leaking out the bottom of an injector that is not installed into the cylinder head.

Hope all of that helps you some. And those two connectors that you showed pictures of... those are the only two connectors that don't go to anything. I dunno what they are for, but nothing gets plugged into them, at least not on the 3.0 motor and harness. Mine are disconnected and the cars has no problems, and that's how everyone else's car is.

Well, after a lot of waiting, I was able to hear the engine...I think you have a timing belt or drivebelt issue.

It almost sounds like the timing belt has begun to fray and is slapping against the inside of the timing cover.

Better check that out...pull of the crossover tube and upper timing cover. Then you can have someone crank it while you are looking at the timing belt go round and round...
