Well I’ve been searching the archives the past couple of days tiring to diagnose a knocking that had developed in my 90 MTX. I though for sure it was coming from the top of the engine (chain tensioner). Well it wasn’t, I appear to have spun a bearing (thars gold in that thar oil!). So on Sunday I’m going to pull the pan and assess the damage. There is a place on E-bay right now selling a bearing kit for $120 plus $10 for shipping. I figure might as well do all of them while I’m in there. If anyone has any tips or trick for the process I’d love to hear them. I’ll try to get some pictures of the destruction for all to enjoy.

Well here is the thing. If you spun the bearing and you have particles in your oil theres a 99% chance that your crank will be damaged. If so it will require a regrind and then the thicker bearings to make up for the clearance. Most people just swap a used engine in its much cheaper. But make sure to take a look at study the damage. Take pics and post them for us to see also.

Hey, I did a search and spelt bearing right this time and got lots of info. :bonk: I'll get them form NAPA and forget about the ebay guy.

On a compleatly unrealted note. While I was at the junkyard gettin chain tensioners I found another Plus hood. It is a garnet? color and in fair shape if anyone around Atlanta wants it. I got a whith one last month for $22. This one would need a good buffing or a repaint. It's at the Pull-a -part yard on the south side of town.

Be very careful when tightening the oil pump p/u tube back to the block. Those studs break very easily. Ask me how I know.

Torque Specs Wrong in the Shop Manual

My ford shop manual has the wrong torque specs for those studs and for the windage tray retaining nuts. Compare all the torque specs against the size of the stud or bolt, if it looks too high, it could just be wrong.

I smoke Crank

Hey, everyone. Thanks for the replies and advice but it appears that all is lost with the crank. :frown: The bearing on the front bank driver's side was completely destroyed. The crankshaft has grooves deep enough to hang up posters and is egg shaped. On the bright side I'm in no big rush to get the car fixed and can take my time looking for a 3.2 :dribble: . So I'm off to post in the wanted to buy section. I get pics of the carnage when I do the motor swap. Once again thanks for your replies.

The pul-a-part yard on the south side of Atlanta, near Moreland Ave.& I-285 (Henrico Rd. ?). As of last week there was just the one I mentioned before. I almost always find at least one there. A couple months back there were 4. The one there now has a plus hood but is a cable shift. It had four slicers on it and an all black leather int. that was in fair condition. The Ford section is way in the back on the left side of the yard. The SHO is about 3 or 4 rows fron the back and about halfway down. I put the intake and valve covers in the trunk. There are also a bunch of regular Tauri and Sables to get parts from, I got some nice clear Gen1 headlights there. It's only 15 min. from my work so I go there often. I'll post every time I see a new SHO show up. If you need some help finding the place or pulling parts PM me I'd be glad to help.

Any pan damage?

Mine had a hole and some nasty cracks. Plus the dipstick was completely bent.

Nice chunks of metal everywhere...

Oh- and a couple quarts of antifreeze came out when I drained the oil. (for some reason the hole didn't leak until I drained it. Fragments lodged in there?) Block damage??

You officialy win the the making me feel better award :salute: .There was no block damage(that I can tell now) but I'm sure it was close. The motor had 210K on it and I am only responsible for about 30K of them so I don't knpw how it had been treated ealier in it's life. When we were pulling the oil punp pickup to get to the crank the two bolts that hold it were bearly more than finger tight. I'm thinking mybe there wasn't a good seal and my oil pressure was not as high as it should have been. I think I'll install an oil pressure gauge on my 3.2 :thumb: .
