I'm sure gutting is acceptable, but I'm also sure that it will bump your car up qa class or two depending on how much you take out, so I would suggest giving the rule book a good once over. I've never ran a NASA Auto-X myself, always SCCA Solo, but I'm familiar with the "points" system that NASA uses to figure out a cars class.

I've got the points listing in my work notebook.

I plan on doing everything else before gutting to see what kind of leeway I have class wise. I'm going to try to keep it in NXF. But if I'm starting to tip over into NXE, I'm going to go gutting crazy and remove 300lbs worth of seats and interior.

A few of us have gone as far as to remove about 700lbs from our cars. (My green fully optioned 92 weighs in at 2840, It's safe to assume it was right at 3500 when stock). Another member is in the high 2700s. Regardless, last time I classed my car it was NXA. :nut:

Although not a AutoX car, I can vouch for having TONS of weight in these cars that can be easily removed. My car weighed 3400 pounds when I first got it. The car now weighs 2690.
It changes every characteristic of the car.

If I were doing cheap autoX itd be a fox body because RWD>>>>>>>>FWD but the SHO is extremely capable. If the suspension isnt sloppy throw some tires on it and have fun. I have a 91+ thats pretty low on intrax springs with konis F and sensatracs R. 225 seems to be close to the limit on width...supposedly you can run 245s but it requires some serious massaging and I dont know if it can be lowered. Moral of the story is get tires, get a y-pipe and exhaust (if it doesnt already have an after market set up), run redline fluid in the trans and have fun. Suspension mods are hard to come by but 700 should get a decent set up.

OH and i see its Mocha interior if you do gut it keep me in mind for interior parts. I'm one of the few SHO owners that appreciates it for a classic.

And for Autocross specifically, you base that off what? Personal experience while competing?

theres a reason that the EF civic si's dominate SCCA's pax system in STC

That said, my '91 has SFC's, 24/26 sways, rear stb, and a hodgepodge setup of suspension......I think the reason mine behaves like it does autox'ng is due to the 245/45 tires stuffed on it.....:naughty: Although, IDK if Jayro ever figured out why my car over rotated that day and his pushed like crazy....

I am pretty sure the tires had something to do with it. You were running new 245 star specs and I had 3 yr old 225 star specs.

I also think that, in general, Gen I's rotate a little easier than Gen II's. I noticed this in yours and also in Somedude's Gen I at Gingerman. Somedude's had an almost identical set up, comparable tires and the same alignment....yet rotated alot easier.

I shouldn't have sprayed the tires......the one run I ran HOT they were much better. It was still a blast though.....throwing grease all over the place:omgsho:

So you bringing it to Gingerman this coming year. We could get a few people and make an on track SHO caravan.

+1 on the Hankook C71s. I love mine. They stick like glue on road courses.
My car isn't a good AutoX car though...

Maybe, it depends what all goes on down here to be honest. Plus I think the '91 needs a new ZF rack.....I think it got toasted when the power steering hose blew up last april. :(

Wouldn't the STBs and SFCs push it into ESP? or was it just the SFCs? I know my red car was ESP, but IIRC, that was because of the ALSFBs and the Fidanzza.

IIRC, the only thing that made my '91 not SMF legal were the SFC's....but Street Mod classes allow more than Street Prepared do. Heck, just changing brake size will bounce you from ESP.

ALSFB's are not allowed in ESP. So basically, don't tell anyone you got them, or switch to Gen III bushings.

-Sam

Or just paint them black(thats what I did to mine)......I highly doubt anyone will care though. My SFC's can be seen from the sides, but nobody cared. The event I ran SMS and had the subaru guys giving speeches inbetween runs telling them they had to beat the taurus.....I was third in class until the last run. Jermey did beat me in SMF @ grissom though, but I think we were both just messing around :nut:
