Hi all,

My name's Wil, and I picked up a 1991 SHO MTX to build up as an AutoX car. I'm VERY new to working on cars, so I figure I'm only out what I can't get in scrap for this car if I jack something up too bad.

I'm quite in to Auto-X myself and have a car specifically built for it....

Good luck.

Basically what I'm going for, but on the cheap, as much as possible. I plan on spending 2x my car's value on 1 set of tires. :snicker:

Weight reduction = Free.

Tires = 800-1000 dollars (I run 275/40/17 up front, 245/40/17 rear - Hankook Z214 C71 Compound)

Quaife = 9-1,000 Dollars.

Suspension = 600 - 1500 Dollars.

The rest will be a bunch of little bits. Long story short, it took me about 3 years to develop my car with the help of good friend. As of now, It's perfect for my driving style. Getting it sorted will be the biggest hurdle.

Cheapest way to do it? Buy one that's already built! Or you have to keep buying other cars to take parts off of.

I'm not going for a ******** build:
Get it running consistently
Sway bars/strut tower bars
Tires

That's about it.

In that case, put the widest damn tire you can up front, run a 19mm (or none at all) front sway bar, a large rear bar and run as much front camber as you can. Should make a competitive G-Stock car on a local level. Don't even bother with a front strut tower bar. A Rear may do something however.

No gutting it for a stock class however.

Tires, SubFrame connectors, swaybars, spring/strut combo, tires and pull some weight out.

Maintinance before any of that....and search about the transmission. They can be weak if you like to do burn outs/one wheel peels.

Same...

Our local group runs NASA Autocross rules, so gutting it is acceptable. I just need to watch how much I gut it to avoid bumping up a class into the Mustang realm.

Mustangs....no worries. You would be suprised at how well you can do agiant them.

Although the SHO isnt the best AutoX car. If I drove well I could be competative locally. It is always fun though.

I'm sure gutting is acceptable, but I'm also sure that it will bump your car up qa class or two depending on how much you take out, so I would suggest giving the rule book a good once over. I've never ran a NASA Auto-X myself, always SCCA Solo, but I'm familiar with the "points" system that NASA uses to figure out a cars class.

:woo-hoo: The points system, is that for running over pedestrians?
