SHO and Flex convert to vent to atmosphere with factory blow off valves

I vented both of my BoV's to the atmosphere, with rubber leg tips (anti-skid) the lines on the pvc intake pipe......it makes a nice sound plus i notice better pick up on acc I'm not sure but i will post more details as days go by

This thread (and a perfect 75 degree sunny October day) have motivated me to do the BOV VTA mod. Thanks for all of the tips & advice. Easy to do and it does sound cool. Is it OK to leave the rubber chair tips on long term or better to "upgrade" to more high temp caps?

I did the BOV VTA mod the other day and really enjoy the blowoff sound. Sometimes when I am just driving down the highway I can hear air coming from the BOV's. Just wondering if this is normal circ or if I may have damaged them when doing the mod? I appreciate your feedback!

There should be absolutely no reason to have worse gas mileage with the BOV VTA. The only thing I could think of would be if you don't have a good seal on the line that goes into the CAC. When going down the highway I will sometimes hear air coming from the BOVs but it only happens when letting off the gas (but not every time). Are you hearing air all the time? Or is it only when letting off the gas? You should be able to hook up your tuner and watch boost. You should only hear the BOV when it builds any boost and then you let off the gas. The more boost it builds the louder it will be. But even when it's at 1# on the highway and I let off the gas I can hear it a little bit.

You shouldn't hear noise from the BOV while highway driving (or any) unless you are constantly on/off the throttle.

Thanks guys. Not hearing all the time. Definitely operates as expected 95% of the time. I think I am chalking it up to letting off slightly or possible hovering between acceleration and letting off. Pretty new to the tuner. Haven't even gotten my tunes back from Livernois yet...Will see what I can read boost wise.

Assuming he's driving the same, he shouldn't see a difference between VTA and stock. When cruising down the interstate my car will run in boost a little bit when going up any sort of incline. Even normal driving a result in hearing the BOV

^ exactly my point....There is no mpg effect by doing this except for wanting to hear turbo noises. So more throttle....Less mpg.
But as always we have to explain everything on shoforum

So coming from an SRT-4, a Mazdaspeed 6, and a Mazdaspeed 3 previously I think I might just be confusing some random venting for normal operation in a car with electronically controlled recirc? Killing me that I can hear them venting under normal driving load (doing 80-85mph) but its safe to say that if they silence up when gassed I am good?

That's what I thought but when I brought my car into Ford (didn't have them connected), they told me if voided any warranty on the turbo. I don't think the local Ford people understood how the BOV worked but they said they contacted Ford corporate and it negated warranty on the turbo.

I am concerned that I may have damaged one or both BPV's when I first did the VTA mod. I misunderstood a walkthrough and capped both the BPV and the tube. I drove it like this for maybe 10-15 miles before I realized that something was not right. Since then I have had the BPV side vented and the pipes capped. Could I have damaged one or both of the BPV's? How can I test them to make sure? I have no way to read boost since the Livernois tuner can't read and there is no indication to the car. Help a brother out!

Oh wow that's no good. Do you have any codes.

Do you make boost and do they make sound wheb going from wot to no throttle? If they do your probably fine

No codes. It definitely makes boost but doesn't seem consistent. Sometimes I get on it and is surprises me with response and power. Other times it seems slow and sluggish. They definitely perform a full vent when going from wot to no throttle. I am just concerned that they may be failing intermittently (malfunctioning seals or something).

Gonna be dumb here and ask how I can confirm if that is happening to me? Should I disassemble them to confirm?
