How can I deepen the threads in my OE reproduction shift **** w/o screwing it up? (no pun intended). I have the issue like Bab said...won't thread down deep enough to 1. not be crooked 2. close the gap between the **** and boot.

Never drilled and tapped anything, so how should I fix it? Don't want to waste $40 if I have 1 shot to get it right.

The hole in the bottom needs to be opened up to thread on all the way.

I guess I'll have to go home and take a picture of the SHO shift handle and Mustang shift handle to get my point across.

You send it to me, I do it, and send it back to you. :)

The 79 to 04 Mustangs share the same thread pattern with us. 12mm by 1.75 so i would assume most of those knobs will fit either perfect or with the drilling the achieve the correct length.

Also that. That was the first thing I did, then opened up the hole. The bottom of it looks like ****, but you can't see it.

I bought an OEM reproduction one from 50resto.com and it's decent quality and looks just like an OEM one, but I am having an issue with the threads also. It screws on but the threads seem too short....at it's tightest point no matter what position I screw it on, it's about 45 degrees pointing to the left of center....should I take a saw to the threaded rod and saw a small portion off so it tightens straight?

Is the part number # LRS-7213CR that looks just like at '89 OEM one?
