shift **** on my wife's 93 atx loose

My wife's 93 has a loose shift **** is there a way to tighten it? the overdrive button works fine .it just turns about 2 inches left to right . and it is annoying but functions fine

I had the same problem with mine at one point. There is a clip / pin in the side of the shifter that may be broken or bent. Or you can wedge something between the **** and the shifter to tighten it up.

Pretty common problem I see. Mine does the same (not quite two inches though...yet); as did Phil's.

mine did/does that, kinda loose, I lost the clip when I ordered the new handle from ford a couple years ago, Haven't drove the sho in so long I don't know if it is still like that or not mine is a 93 also.

Replace the shifter handle.The tab inide that keeps it straight is broken.I broke one myself when trying to remove the shifter handle .It doesn't take much of a twist on it to break the tab.
