I originally started with the thought that I could just pull the freeze plug on top of the pump housing and use that as an entry point. However, I think it is too high and too close the the cam gear on that side. I think those problems could be solved but the transfer tube just looked like an easier way to get there.
A slight modification of the thought might be to Y the transfer tube and use a flex hose to connect from there to the new thermostat housing mounted somewhere on the front of the engine.
Yeah, a hole in the thermostat might be a good idea. I know the Ranger had a thermostat issue many years ago when they went to the reverse cooling approach. The solution there was to drill a hole in the thermostat as well.
I was thinking about making some kind of an aluminum timing cover with a hole in the center to pass the throttle cable, breather, etc and provide a place to mount the DIS. I could probably incorporate a thermostat housing mount into that as well.
Do you think a flex coupling back to the transfer tube might be a safer bet? That way I could be sure nothing was getting stressed as things changed temperature.
