When I'm driving at highway speeds and the defrost, panel and floor or any climate controls that cause the electric fan to run. The car runs alot warmer than if I only have vent on. It will run up between the r and m. But when I'm driving in the city with the electric fan going the temperature stays in the normal range around the a and the l. I thought that the car should actually run cooler at highway sppeds because more air is being forced through the rad. Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be causing the car to be running warm at highway speeds.

There is something reducing the efficiency of the cooling system at higher engine speeds. Yes, the greater air flow provides a greater heat sink, but the system is not able to take advantage of it. Check for eveidence of foaming due to leftover flush. Check the tension of the water pump's belt (you didn't say 3.0L or 3.2L). The lower hose can't collapse with 16 psig of pressure in the system so check the condition of the raditor pressur cap to ensure it is holding the pressure. The upper radiator hose should be very tight to the squeeze when the engine is up to temperature.
