Need a little help, 90 SHO , running VERY rich all of a sudden. Ran codes last week everything looked good but got a 22 code.

Has anyone else experienced this problem.

ran codes again today and got an 11 KOEO
KOER I recived the ECT out of range, would this cause my rich condition, would the CPU stay in the closed loop mode if it wasnt reading coolant temp properly?

If the sensor failed to full cold, then yes it would. They are relatively cheap and need a 1" socket IIRC.

there are 2 coolant sensors, I have noticed a few coolant related issues, like gauge doesnt get much over warm , even when I think it should be very hot, and the engine fan does not come on much anymore.....

Which sensor should I change, or just do both...lol

thanks for the help

The two wire sensor is the one you want, this one tells the EEC what the temp of the engine is. The single wire sensor is for the dash guage, both of which are famous for failing. They are only resistors afterall.

If the coolant temperature gauge is having a problem getting to the "L" in NORMAL then the car mostly likely has a thermostat stuck open. This also will make the car run very rich.

My car overheats. I replaced the ECT (the brass plug that bolts into the thermostat housing, the single wire one.) Is it possible that my tstat is stuck closed? Should I pull it out and boil it to see if it opens?

I had another SHO that overheated when the Tstat stuck closed, that would be the first place to look for sure.

Regarding o2 sensors... could they be bad and not have a CEL? I am running rich, new t-stat, runs 190-210 in hot weather w/heavy foot.

As mentioned by Slo-Sho and masho95, it sounds like you need a new thermostat and ECT.

Where in the NW are you located?

I replaced the ECT (the brass plug that bolts into the thermostat housing, the single wire one.)

That's NOT the ECT, that was the guage sender.

runs 190-210 in hot weather w/heavy foot.

Completely normal operating range.

It is always possible that the O2 sensors are weak and will not set a CEL, however, there might be other causes for the "rich" condition.

The only way to determine what the operating temperature of any car is to measure the temperature with a known, accurate measuring device.
